I recently had a GPU driver issue with a rogue package that caused my kernel to break (please read it here Tainted Kernel and Kernel Panic ).
Basically im back here with a new issue that is causing a weird stutter on my KDE where there are no animations when I do anything. Everything is choppy and instantaneous. The fan speed seems to be maxxed out everytime I try to do anything. CPU consumption is abnormal. ATM browsers with 5 tabs on makes everything else slow.
I suspect this is another case of the GPU drivers messing everything up. I have dual GPU on my laptop so if it was another nvidia thing my primary integrated intel GPU would pull through. Very odd.
Another thing could be if you have set your BIOS to use a dedicated GPU by default rather than Hybrid mode. Not all BIOSes have this feature, but yours probably does.
I literally stopped using KDE because I set my BIOS to dedicated mode, then later found out that it was my fault for setting it that way. Or, better yet, Nvidia’s fault. This made me switch to Cinnamon, and while Cinnamon doesn’t have the same issue, it did have others when using dedicated mode.
No longer using dedicated mode nor KDE, but won’t be switching back to KDE for now, even though I know things would be mostly okay.
