I’d say LFS is a one-size-fits-nobody distro ![]()
Ya. That pony has been beaten to death here. It’s not even an option to ship.
The vast majority of new users expect everything to work.
No need to split it. This topic has been covered EXTENSIVELY.
ok ok.. hold your horses. However, I posted the website, so give me some credit. ![]()
I may not agree over this. Few months ago, when I came here from Windows culture, I had never used terminal in the past, nor I knew its functionality, as Windows provides powershell and command prompt, whose usage is still mystery for me.
So when I started my journey with EndeavourOS, I was complete Zero. Since I was zero, whether I chose Terminal-centric approach or non Terminal-centric approach should not bother me much as I was completely new to Linux world, hence both of them had posed me a certain level thinking about their methodologies.
Before coming to Linux, I expected GUI as setting application, from where we can change themes, wallpapers, shortcuts, PC info, etc. Therefore, I was highly amused when I used Calamares installer, as it was a new kind of GUI I had ever seen. Afterwards, I chose KDE as environment, and had found all the necessary GUI which I need. And Welcome Application provided by the team was also a new GUI for me.
For first couple of months I was in belief that both Pamac and Pacman are one and the same thing
. When I was in Windows, the store provided by them served no purpose for me, as I had always downloaded software from their respective websites. And for uninstalling, I needed to go to control panel, then click something like applications if I remember, then I was provided with a list of all applications, then search the intended software, click uninstall, skip the warnings, see the green fluid getting filled… All these were a lengthy process.
Instead of this, installing/uninstalling desired package is very easy via yay -S or yay -Rs, as only in few seconds, those things get completed.
For the first time when I was using terminal here, I was highly excited to see what and how actually terminal looks and works. The way pacman eats food for finishing the process had made me thrive and smile for first couple of weeks as I had never seen anything like that. As a complete Zero user, this was a new learning experience. I had received lots of support from Forum members, and because of them, I am very happy user of EndeavourOS
.
As told by @sradjoker, we can learn the usage and ideas involved in system by looking at the other’s issue and trying to find solution for it. And I completely agree with this. When I first started to look for solutions for other’s problem, I was introduced to new concepts at every steps, and moving over those steps helped me to learn few ideas.
I had always wanted to use rolling release distribution, as there are no major upgrades and regular updates keep things up to date. Fixed release model had posed me trouble in the past when was on Windows. As we were provided with huge amount of updates, and those were enough to finish the daily data quota of 1.5 GB, which I am provided with. So doing small-small updates provides me much comfort then.
Also, as I mentioned that I was provided with limited internet supply, hence trying distribution and uninstalling them was not a choice for me. I directly installed EndeavourOS on my system and eliminated Windows from it. There were few risks involved as I was having online exam at that time, and anything wrong could have troubled me a lot.
But, as quoted by @Bryanpwo on the EndeavourOS HomePage :
# Create your own destiny with an incredible journey
# A basic installation ready to tweak
# Our stellar community is there to give you a push forward
# Ready to roll up your sleeves?
I was sure that, if I am setting out on new adventure of learning experience, I should be ready to take few risks, if anything goes wrong then community can help me to overcome them by guidance from their side. ![]()
In cricket commentary I had heard a line which is : कठिन है, तभी करने योग्य है !
which means, " It’s hard, only then it’s worth doing! " .
Hence, following this principle, I started my journey as Zero knowledge user.
The fact that people keep bringing it up should tell you something ![]()
I agree with everything you stated. I have praised EOS to heaven many times, and I do believe my distro hopping has come to an end. May this distro live long and happily.
So simple, so true, yet such a powerful statement.
It does. It tells me the search box should be 10x larger on the page.
They get same polite answer ![]()
EndeavourOS goes where no one knows. The others just follow … ![]()
