Its 2022, what DE/WM will you be using/switching to?

I’m on EOS Gnome, zero issues but looking for something new. Has anyone use/used LXQT or LXDE, LXQT looks interesting. :+1:t3:

1.LXQT
2.I3
3.Xfce/I3 Bender OS

That looks like my 2022 direction lol, what say you?

I am totally biased here but I vote for i3. I can even post up a modified startup config if you want…

I’ve messed with I3 a little, i like it. Not sure how to use someone elses config, but i can learn fast. :+1:t3:

I used Xfce for years before I switched over to i3 several months ago. I will probably stick with it but I have considered trying other window managers.

I still like XFCE am I going to switch? nope, unless it get left behind or abandoned or I fall in love with another. The way I’ve set it up it really doesn’t get in my way. If I ever going to switch then I might take up awesome wm. Because it’s just awesome.

Knowing myself, I’ll stick to Plasma, and continue to launch dwm once every couple of months (fully convinced that it sucks less, but never managing to stick with it).

I’ve been messing around with Awesome recently. I like it so far, seems like it can be really customizable. But, I’m not too familiar with lua so it’ll probably be an ongoing project as I learn it and the Awesome API.

I actually switched back to LXQT on my desktop and laptop on the 2nd

It’s only a matter of time before I switch back to Plasma… And only a matter of time till I-

Edit: Maui Shell looks really cool so I’ll be trying it once it’s in beta.

Unless there’s a massive change in the development of Plasma - I’ll be here.

As always I’ll keep using everything for fun and exploration. But Plasma has literally EVERYTHING (other than a way to center my calendar on the panel) that I could imagine wanting or needing in a computer that I use everyday.

I have used both. LXDE is pretty dated at this point but if that doesn’t bother you, try it out.

LXQT is simple and lightweight. I have used it pretty extensively in the past.

That will be decided in March.

Last year in March I switched from Gnome to KDE purely out of curiosity to see how KDE has evolved over the last 10 years, because at that point I haven’t used/tried KDE for over 10 years.

And to live up to this meme and trigger it properly:

/Trigger On
Yes, from my perspective KDE is just right for Windows fans and for those who like it colorful, fresh, childish, cluttered, and complicated. For people who like to get upset about other (mostly Gnome) desktops, ride a racing bike, are vegan, do Crossfit, love multivans, drink smoothies, and tell everyone unprompted and immediately that they actually use GNU+Linux, which of course Arch Linux is based on, and that KDE is the best thing on earth.
/Trigger Off

No, joking aside. KDE was and is really great to use. For my purpose (just browsing the web, SSHing into other machines, playing some games and running applications) any desktop will do. I like to use Gnome as well. Even a little more, because I can add my weather addon and hardware sensor addon to the top bar without any effort and without configuring anything.

What ever happened to the spin you did? It was themed so beautifully.

Most of it was copied into the Manjaro community edition at the time.

I think it changed after that but I had stopped following it at that point.

That was right around the time it was picked up and then they ripped out all the work you did to theme it make it use Kwin and replaced it with openbox no?

If I am being honest…I don’t remember anymore.

I’ll probably be sticking with KDE

Me too … Not using KDE would be like not using EndeavourOS. :scream_cat:
