Is there something going on with Audacity?

Maybe I didn t get the memo, but I see the mention of telemetry when I go to AUR or ARCH repository to install Audacity. Can someone fill me in? Also, when trying alternatives, I chose Mixxx, and surprise, I get this;

Sorry if I don t just agree. and allow, but wtf?

According to dt those are most popular forks currently:

https://github.com/tenacityteam/tenacity - Tenacity

(c) Audacity's future is uncertain - #49 by keybreak

It’s in AUR

What about it?

Mixxx seems to have quite a few dependencies that need to be installed:

https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/mixxx-git?all_deps=1#pkgdeps

PS. Please post terminal output as text and not screenshots. It makes it easier to read, copy, paste to quote etc.

I think he got spooked by “Microsoft” the boogeyman.

Ah … I see… well then …

damn right.

When I try, I get “target not found” when I try to install Tenacity. That s why I considered a different app, (mixxx).

Hmm…

  1. Is your system fully updated before you try to install it?

  2. I’ve tried that one https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/tenacity it installs fine for me.
Perhaps you can also try tenacity-git, but that one might break coz it’s latest bleeding edge

I will fully update system, and try again.

You always have to do full update before installing any program on Arch, because it’s a rolling-release update model distro

Funny thing about updating, (but not really funny), I thought I was updated, but apparently not. And Image Magick seems to be bullshit the way it commandeers everything.

Anyway, I updated, and still get the same thing.
[g@g-x ~]$ pacman -S tenacity
[g@g-x ~]$ sudo pacman -S tenacity
error: target not found: tenacity
[g@g-x ~]$

Easiest way to make sure is running:

checkupdates

If it returns nothing, instead of pending update packages list - you’re updated.

No sh*t, why would it be in repos?
I’ve told you it’s only in AUR

yay tenacity

Both Audacity and MuseScore are now “owned” by a team of absolute crooks. I consider it unsafe to use either of those applications.

Tenacity is good. And I’ve switched to LilyPond for music typesetting.

The audacity of them…

Sorry. Couldn’t resist.

For what it’s worth, I went ahead and checked Audacity’s PKGBUILD. Networking, crash-reporting, and sentry-reporting features are all set to “OFF” in the cmake options.

And if one day those settings disappear it’s over. Last time I used Audacity, the new version full of telemetry was in the AUR, the official repo had the former version.

Looks like Tenacity is a good alternative.

I just installed it from the AUR and tested it. Took 10 minutes to build on my Ryzen 5 laptop. Except for a few minor glitches in the UI, it works pretty well.

If it’s the text scale like this
tena-big

try starting Tenacity with
GDK_DPI_SCALE=0.8 tenacity
tena-small

Took me about the same time, my old Xeon E3 1270v2 is still competitive.

Not working for me, the font is at the right size, but cropped. I guess it depends on the screen resolution and the font size/resolution.
I have two other applications using wxwidgets-gtk3, Filezilla and Radiotray-ng and no font bug.
