Installation Quits at the Dialog to Add User Account

Hi, I downloaded and installed Endeavour for the first time today. I very much like it. However, I did encounter a somewhat blatant issue during the installation.

At the dialog where a user and password are entered, I found that typing any character at the Full Name (not login name) caused the installation to immediately quit and go back to the initial installation options dialog. This was very repeatable. I could enter data at other fields in the dialog but any character in the Full Name field caused the installation to immediately quit.

I think that this may be related to my use of the partitionmanager tool. I think that after using the partitionmanager tool and encountering the above problem (repeatedly), the installation can be completed by rebooting and then not using the partitionmanager tool (partitions already created). This is based on what I can recall about the process.

Hope helpful.

I reinstalled and didn’t use the partitionmanager, and had no issues, so that lends weight to the original hypothesis.

Aside from that issue, the installation is actually excellent and I like the feature to “reuse” existing partitions. That terminology is unique and insightful, and provides clarity and efficiency. Not to mention that the graphics also enhance clarity. Well done, if I may say.

This sounds odd. I have not ever encountered anything like this.

Are you sure your ISO is without errors? Did you check Sha512sum or PGP?

It is odd so it depends on what the OP was actually doing to create the partitions. We don’t have enough info to know. I’ve never run across this either in any of my testing.

Yes. Checked the checksum.

Agree odd and very consistent. Any character that I tried in the first field, caused it. Other fields were fine, so that could be a good clue to developers. And it happened only under certain circumstances, otherwise no problem with first (or any) field. As I say, hope helpful, perhaps keep an eye out for it, but as it turns out, it’s not a showstopper as they say.

Here we go, someone else saw it:

It was caused by secure boot being on.

Thanks for information!

(I’m a developer, 30 years exp. mainly C++. Endeavor is the best distribution that I have found and I have researched and used many. I noticed that calamares (installer) is C++. I sent email to Mr. Kamprad, offering to help as I seem to recall that he was seeking help with projects.)
