I think AI should be a new catatgory in this forum. As far as I can see AI is in its infancy. I dont know. Maybe wrong, but regardless, I suggest this mainly because of this video.
I donāt mind the idea of an āA.I. Discussionā category for the forum. Iām not sure it will happen, though. But, having said that, many here donāt like A.I. at all. And having its own category could unclutter A.I. topics from elsewhere in the forum.

Sure, but AI is not going away. It is only increasing in power and influence. Why would you dismiss it as a casual annoyance? Are you betting that you will be dead and buried before it gains a strong enough foothold to cause havoc on the world? It would nt affect you so why should you worry about it? If that is the case your attitude makes sense. But, any intelligent individual can look back in history and follow the advancement of technology/computing/programmingā¦Why would AI be any different? Although those aspects applies, there is more. Add to the equation self learning, and the worst part, individual programmers biases, and point of views, and I see a recipe toward disaster. I guess the question is, what will trigger the event that will convince the nay-sayers?

LLMās are really badly prone to hallucinations. Ask a question about KDE Plasma, and some answers are ridiculously wrongā¦ tell it this, itāll say āOH, youāre so clever - itās true and I borrowed that idea from another popular desktopā; SOUNDING like a toddler, but actually just behaving like a dumb machine thatās been programmed to do that.

That sounds like doomsday - but it isnāt. Back when some folks were using Amiga 500 computers to communicate and send pictures by packet radio, other systems were being developedā¦ we had no idea what to expect and would never have imagined a phone you can ask āhowās the weather?ā.

Iāve known this for some time now; and the only thing we know is that weāre all going to die, and itās unlikely to be fun.
AI is a tool. And a tool can be used for different things. Knives can be used to harm people or to cut bread. It is the same with AI. It is a ādual useā tool so to speak.
I very much like AI enhanced search engines. With them it is much easier for me to learn new stuff. The time I spend for searching relevant info has shrinked considerably since I started to use perplexity for example.
I am a dungeon master and I very much like how AI helps me to create the next storyboard, how it draws pictures of dungeons for me which helps me and the players to get a better impression of the circumstances in the dungeon. That is a game changer in the true sense of the word.
There are so many good things around AI, that I have to say: I like it! It has so much potential to do good stuff. But I also see the risks. There is no doubt for me that AI can create problems. But that needs to be taken care of by society with rules, laws and the like. A tool is a tool.
Thanks for the suggestion, but weāre not going to add a new category. Not because of AI, but because our forum has too many categories. Most users already donāt know which category to use over here.

Well that puts the most applicable place for AI as the lounge (or possibly applications), at least as I see it.
Well, itās not an endeavouros application, so I would think the lounge or one of the sub-categories

I think AI has it uses, but I think current use for like getting answers to exams without any effort or becoming āartistā that uses only it as oneās tool are not that.
Also, are we really talking about real AI or just advanced search engine?
But my answer to this is no, because I donāt think thereās need for that. I think we can have fights about AI in general posts.
