I’m trying to install the system on a Rock5b, but I can’t seem to apply the necessary changes to make the script work. Does anyone know where to start?
Hi @gattohub, welcome to the Forum!
I don’t know what a “Rock5b” is, maybe a single-board-computer like Raspberry? Anyway, which script do you try to make work, which system do you want to install? And what have you tried already?
Welcome to
forums! Currently we do not have a Rock 5b image. The main reason for this is that we do not build the kernel and bootloader packages since they’re based on older bsp kernels and not the mainline arm kernel.
@Pudge was trying out a script/set of instructions for setting up eos arm using image and kernel from external source. Maybe he has version ready to share with you.
Thanks for replying. I’m trying to install Arch on a RADXA5B. I usually did it other ways, with other scripts that aren’t working at the moment. Now I’ve found that it can be done from ARM Endeavouros, but the script needs to be adapted to the specifications of the board in question, and I don’t know how to do that because it’s beyond my skills. The script I’m trying to get working is the one posted in this forum: https://github.com/endeavouros-arm/image-build-script
Two things should also be clarified: I’m currently working from Ubuntu, and one of the scripts that used to work but no longer does is also in this forum: MiniArch for h6/h616/rk3399/3566/3568/s905/s912/sm1/g12
You aren’t the only one my friend. I am in the same situation. I had been using this image
https://github.com/kwankiu/archlinux-installer/releases/download/b09/radxa-rock-5b-archlinux-installer.img.xz
for quite some time and it worked fine, until it didn’t. About 2 weeks ago I updated the system and it broke the OS as far as KDE Plasma is concerned. Even this image uses a third party debian based kernel, not an archlinux-arm kernel.
You could try the above image and load something other than KDE Plasma and see if it works for you.
You could also try bredos.org then scroll down to Radxa Rock 5B. The last time I tried bredos, it only offered the Cinnamon Desktop Environment.
To cut to the chase, there is currently no EnOS radxa 5B development in progress.

This is correct, they offer cinnamon on their offline installs but you can choose anything on online installs.
I’m using BredOS on my Rock 5b and it’s been working fine for the most part. I tried to get steam running but one of the games worked. My controller also didn’t work because they are using an old kernel which doesn’t yet have the drivers for my controller
With bredos.org I just tried tonight to do an online install. I went through and answered all the questions and options. Then it prompted me that “the online installer has not yet been implemented”. What a bummer, I was looking forward to see KDE Plasma on bred.os
Pudge
I forgot that the online installer was in alpha/beta. You can contact the devs to get a ISO with some version of online installer working.
@gattohub @sradjoker
Typing this post with a freshly installed KDE Plasma on Radxa ROCK 5B.
More later.

I also used the kwankyu version for a long time until it started having problems. I tried installing it now but couldn’t. With Bredos, I have the problem that I have the uboot file burned to a SPI card, and to boot UEFI images I have to delete it, which I never wanted to do because of that difficulty.
If you want to install Archlinux ARM on a Radxa ROCK 5B onto a micro SD card, download
https://github.com/warpme/miniarch/releases/download/09930fc917cc/MiniArch-20240715-6.17.1-board-rk3588.rock5-b-SD-Image.img.xz
goto
and scroll down to Quick Start then Install (when You will stay with SD Card) :
Follow the instructions and you will end up with a working Archlinux ARM OS on a Radxa 5B on a micro SD card.
I have not figured out how to install this to the built in M.2 nvme port.

EDIT:
Time to put my Radxa ROCK 5B in storage back on the closet shelf.
Mine is also doing the same. Mainline kernel support can’t come fast enough.
I don’t understand what you mean by putting your Rock5b in the closet, because that’s not my intention here. I’ve already done what you’re proposing as a solution. And the script doesn’t work. The script throws a lot of errors and doesn’t work. But maybe you know how to fix it and could share your solution.
