Hi everyone. I just registered because I’ve finished installing EndeavourOS (online install) and selected the XFCE desktop. After the installation finished and I rebooted, I was greeted by a plain desktop that’s missing the beautiful EOS XFCE theming.
I tried applying it by clicking the “EOS XFCE default theme” button in the welcome window. It asked for confirmation, rebooted… and nothing changed.
As a last resort, I followed the instructions here:
But two things happen:
When using the git clone command, it asks for a username and password, which I don’t know.
When using wget, I get a TLS connection error. I tried with two different ISPs, same result.
So unfortunately, I haven’t been able to install it.
I applied the commands from the GitHub repository with the correction you suggested by adding the .git suffix. Although the full theming wasn’t applied as expected, I did use the option to download EOS and community wallpapers, which triggered a script. I selected one of the EOS wallpapers, and the result I ended up with closely resembles—if not matches—the setup I was aiming to achieve using the EOS script (the button in the ‘Welcome’ window) and the default theming commands mentioned earlier in this thread. If needed, I’d be happy to share a screenshot.
As a side note, after running the theme installation commands and rebooting, XFCE on EOS feels smooth and responsive—even on a very outdated machine (Intel Atom N455 / 2GB RAM / 120GB SATA3 SSD running in SATA2 AHCI mode), which is a pleasant surprise for a fresh install.
Try this. It takes a little more time and effort but it is all done with xfce GUIs.
This was written for ARM devices, but x86_64 devices work exactly the same.
I will check.
As expected wallpaper will not work to be set offer update changed the way it handles wallpaper.
I can see if I am able to fix this. But that’s archived.
Thank you very much for your contribution. I will give it a try. It looks quite detailed and requires time and a lot of patience. I will take screenshots in case any errors arise, as well as of the final result. I hope to achieve the same outcome as described there.
Please excuse my English—I’m from Argentina and still struggle a bit with writing. I can understand what you write, but sometimes it’s difficult for me to follow everything. I’m using a translator to help.
Thank you for looking into the issue and considering possible solutions. Personally, I don’t believe it’s something urgent or a priority, since it’s still possible to change the EndeavourOS wallpaper in XFCE by clicking the button in the “Welcome” window. This launches a script in the Terminal, followed by a window showing the location of the wallpapers. It’s important to take note of the directory path so the wallpaper can later be set manually through the Desktop Settings by selecting the “Other” option. In the Thunar window, navigate to the endeavouros/background directory and click “Open.” That’s how I managed to do it. It’s not too complicated, but it does require some manual intervention.
By the way, thank you for bringing an obsolete device back to life—it had become completely unusable.
What I haven’t been able to install yet is the GlobalMenu (valapanel, appmenu). I have all the components installed correctly without errors, and I ran the xconf commands and rebooted, but the plugin still doesn’t appear in the “Add New Items” list in the Panel. I searched the forum and AUR, but the available solutions seem too outdated to work. Thanks!
