@BluishHumility Tried this - no luck.

The lights are turned off again after I log in - so something is doing something even after graphical-session.target.

I’ll do some more research.

I tried all the suggestions in this thread, and tried all kinds of permutations of options in the systemd-unit, but the only config I’ve found that does result in the kb-backlights to turn on at boot and remain on after log in, is what @xircon suggested at How to have keyboard backlights turned on at boot - #15 by SemLraug.

Only snag: if I then turn them off, they turn on after a short time (not 3 seconds, but shorter).

I can live with this and will mark @xircon 's post as the solution.
