Hi everyone! Vanilla Arch user looking to be part of a friendly community

Hi everyone! I wanted to drop in and introduce myself.

The main reason I’m joining is because of this forum’s stellar reputation. I’ve been getting incredibly exhausted by the toxic nature, drama, and chaotic moderation of traditional social media like Reddit and Facebook groups. I’m actively trying to find better, healthier online social circles where I can just chat with mature people about Linux, tech, and shared interests without the constant negativity or elitism.

I’ve heard time and time again that this community is “the friendly face of Arch,” so I decided to make an account and escape the chaos. I actually use vanilla Arch instead of Endeavor personally, so I might not be able to help with Endeavour-specific questions, but I’m looking forward to being part of a positive community, hanging out, and helping out with general Arch/Linux troubleshooting where I can.

Thanks for having me!

Welcome to the community @nathaniel.krebs :tada::enos_flag:

Welcome to the EndeavourOS forum. :handshake: I hope you enjoy your time here.

Hi and welcome to the forum mate

@Pudge & @smokey, thank you guys! The vibes around here already feel so much chiller. :slightly_smiling_face:

Welcome
Maybe you’ll just install endeavourOS and never look back!

I’ll be honest, I’m a bit of a purist, I like the idea of my OS not having a lineage that it has to follow and rather following its own path. That is to say absolutely nothing negative about other operating systems, or the people who choose them, it is merely a personal preference. I would need a very compelling reason to give up Arch. :slightly_smiling_face:

Just to clarify, I really appreciate the community and tools you guys have built!! I’m just a bit set in my ways. I’ll probably spin up a VM and poke around just to see what it’s like at some point, but I’m pretty attached to Arch. Hard to give something up when you had to put that much effort into learning it lol.

pretty much, agree. Welcome!

edit: what do you think of Cosmic?

@drunkenvicar, I have yet to check it out haha. I’m pretty heavily invested into the Plasma ecosystem, but I have been meaning to take a look and see how it feels to use. I like to at least somewhat familiarize myself with everything possible. :slightly_smiling_face:

Welcome to our purple family. It is a cozy place to be.

Allright so time for a flame war.

I will give you two compelling reasons, Debian and EOS.

I’m always down for some good old fashioned roasting, as long as it’s all in good fun!

I actually do use Debian for network appliances, things I want to set and forget, but not as a daily driver haha. Windows 11 for gaming (Fortnite, RIP) and Arch for everything else (again, except for Plex/AdGuard/etc.).

you use Windoz 11. Sacrilege. This desecration of computer hardware has to stop. If you are Christian or Christian-adjacent please do a full confession at your next mass.

p.s. not preaching water and drinking wine, but I also dual boot Windows. Unfortunately. :face_exhaling:

I just want to occasionally play Fortnite without having to pay for some crappy remote gaming subscription, man :sob: :broken_heart:

Welcome to the :enos: forum @nathaniel.krebs :enos_flag:

I use Debian and Arch, and have always felt welcome here. I distribute both of my custom built Debian and Arch based spins as well. I friendlier bunch of folks you will not find. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
