Greetings from a Manjaro refugee

ROFL well - I found that just copying back the config brings it up pretty quickly.

It’s interesting to see always how excited people get… though I can understand if there’s a major new function… Less exciting for me, as a mouse user, I’m waiting for Wayland to take away the mouse gestures I enjoy in x11.

Fedora is a very attractive alternative to Arch, for being pretty well updated but also for being stable. If I weren’t so over-the-top with customizing I’d probably give it a spin.

It misses the best part of the sketch where he drops the Reliant in a lake! :stuck_out_tongue:

Same here! Just learnt Linux and Manjaro, never had any issue with Manjaro but I wanted something more challenging having 0 clue about linux I move to EndeavourOS best thing I ever done! Not as complicated than Arch but not as easy than Manjaro! Welcome

So even Fedora has got 5.25… Damn… never thought I’d have to compare Manjaro( a rolling release) to Kubuntu( Well… Ubuntu based release cycle) smh…

Tbh I miss the nifty Manjaro settings manager that let’s us install kernels and language packs. It also integrates well with KDE system settings.

Aren’t we stereotyping now!

Doesn’t work all that well just copying the .zshrc over. Manjaro’s zshrc sources a slew of things installed at the system level, none of which are installed by default in EndeavourOS.

To pull it over I had to nab master-zsh-config-master from git, then hacked the PKGBUILD script to run the few commands needed to install it outside of pacman because I couldn’t noodle out making it a package proper.

YES! That, too. That was so nice.

Also, if memory serves, Manjaro had sensible settings for Samba. Or was it Ubuntu? Anyway.

Install Samba on “that other distro™”, right click on directory I want to share, go to share tab, enable sharing, done.

Install Samba on EOS (and probably Arch, too), do the above steps, “You don’t have permission to share this directory.” Check Samba’s directory in /etc, 0 configs present. Check the Arch Wiki and remember why I hated poking at Samba by hand. Still haven’t gotten it to work.

You don’t need no stinkin’ Samba if you’re not using windoze.

:brain: :point_left:

It looks complicated but the steps are straightforward, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Samba#Enable_Usershares

VLC on Android accesses files on server via what protocol again? WOMP WOMP.

That does not enable what I had previous. This was in KDE, right click on ANY directory in my home, I can share it via Samba.

Really? It’s the current year!

What, you expect someone with Linux on his gaming rig to have an iOS tablet? Please.

I assumed this would work…

What? God no!

Nope. Just tried it again. Having your user in the sambashare doesn’t do squat. Unless I need to restart KDE afterwards. It’s just a hot mess for something which is so expected.

Yes, it’s specified on the page.

I mean, the instructions are written step-by-step, you just have to read and follow them. If you only follow part of the instructions and things don’t work then the “hot mess” is kind of on you?
