GNOME/XFCE - Can't Start XFCE Session

Hi all,

Main DE is GNOME; I got curious and thought I’d try running XFCE4 for a while.

Followed this thread here (Can I install the endeavorOS xfce environment next to gnome?)

Executed:

sudo pacman -S xfce4
sudo pacman -S xfce4-goodies

Install went fine; logged out, selected XFCE 4 (Wayland), but the login screen loops back to the user selection menu. Clicking it prompts “Authentication Error,” and I can’t re-enter my password. The back radio button responds with click, but no action.

Thoughts? Thank you.

You might want to give this a read:

Note that Wayland support is marked as experimental for a good reason: things will not work like you expect it to and a lot of stuff is generally broken .

I can attest ‘Experimental’ mode in Endeavour Cinnamon is not ready for human consumption; caveat emptor. Stick with X11 til DE’s–other than Gnome and Plasma–are dialed in is my current gameplan.

When I release EnOS ARM images I do a lot of testing before releasing the images.
In my opinion, XFCE has the worst Wayland support of the DEs that EnOS offers.
Try logging into XFCE with x11.

Then if you don’t like XFCE’s vanilla theming, try this to get an EnOS feel to it.

Gah! Missed that one. I thought I’d tried logging in via X11 but I guess not – worked!

However, logging back into GNOME changed some theme settings such as fonts and and shell. I will investigate further when I have time but resources are also appreciated. Thanks again!!!
