No matter which video, I have been getting this again. I have switched vpn servers but still the same.
Videos play fine in Librewolf with the same vpn servers or even over TOR before that gets blocked which seems to be normal.

Thanks @IOF for the info!
Feel a bit ashamed that I didn’t head over there before posting over here. ![]()
does the video play through an external like mpv? Currently that is how I play video’s though freetube. I think a while back we had similar issues and it would play through mpv but not the freetube app. I just got used to opening them up in mpv anymore besides I get the added advantage of getting hardware decoding.
Yes they do. I forgot to mention it in op.
Right. I posted yesterday about it. If it was possible to enable hardware decoding for FreeTube being an Elecron app so essentially using Chromium technology. That thread hasn’t gone anywhere so far.
I never found a way to do it through freetube but I also didn’t spend lots of time on it once I learned I could use an external player
I just noticed that it doesn’t work here either. Fortunately, it works well with mpv.
Since this is an on going issue. I will post the version I have (i have the same issue) I do know a yt-dlp update was available the other day that fixed a similar issue so maybe freetube is working on the fix now (again)
Version0.23.9-1
Here i have 0.23.9 beta directly from freetubeapp.io
yeah i just use the aur for it. I let paru deal with keeping up with the updates.
I take the packaged version of freetube, copy everything to /opt/, delete the old directory, and set the launcher to the new values. Somehow, I’ve never used freetube from the AUR before.
Update on the issue:
UPDATE:
We’ve identified the potential cause of the
[BAD_HTTP_STATUS: 403] Potential causes: IP block or streaming URL deciphering failederror and we will try to address this as soon as possible.
When I read your thread, I did have a good crack at trying to get hardware video decoding working, but I had no success here, so I refrained from posting.
For now, I’m using Grayjay instead. I should note, YouTube is also largely having issues there as well, but at least for content creators that upload to alternative platforms (not the majority), I can use those instead.
Are you using it fro AUR or the direct download zip from their site?
I tried the Android app not so long ago but was overwhelmed by the UI. As I don’t use all those platforms, it felt a bit too “heavy” for my use case and in size of the app.
I’m using the AUR’s grayjay-bin.
Grayjay implements a plug-in system per service, so rather than needing to update Grayjay entirely when the YouTube service needs updating, it just pulls updated plug-ins itself, as needed.
Certainly, if all you’re after is YouTube, it can be a bit overwhelming. But I’d also suggest that if all you’re after is YouTube, this isn’t the app you’d use.
On Android I use Newpipe and recently I am trying out a fork of it, Tubular for Youtube.
For podcasts, I use AntennaPod.
That’s about all the content I consume on mobile. And not all that often.
Alright, I do listen to my local music and sometimes web radio for which I use a browser.
Ditto.
I have Grayjay on the mobile too. I’m starting to use it more. Grayjay is still in heavy development, so it has its fair share of bugs, although it is improving at a reasonable pace.
apparently google is back to not even allowing you to stream it over to mpv anymore either. when i try yt-dlp i get this error

so freetube is completely useless to me right now.
equally useless.
such a depressing loop this is.
youtube: this monkeywrench with foil those freetubers
freetube devs: extracted monkeywrench and patched it up, we’re good to go
