I want to emphasise that I was not trying to add pressure on to @Bryanpwo, @joekamprad and the team. I explain myself further down in the thread what my thinking was, and if I had done it via PM I wouldn’t have had to explain anything.
The Endeavour team do a fantastic job. I understand why they are doing what they are doing, prime example this thread, I just don’t agree with why they are doing it. Doesn’t mean that they are wrong in what they are doing.
Endeavour Admin/Mod team, please accept my apologies, I have no idea where my thought train was at.
@mbod made some really good points that made me realise it was a bit of a selfish action, so if you’ll still have me, I’d like to hang around. If not, fair’s fair.
With the certain threads in the lounge section going, I have no longer have a need for a forum account.
Please can it be deleted.
If the closure decision is reversed then I’d like my account to stay, if not then please delete.
As I mentioned in the screenshot thread. Expanding the moderation team would be the better step forward, rather than closing off the more popular threads that bring forum traffic and create a fun community.
I believe what the mod team are doing is a mistake, but again, it’s not my forum.
I think Joe may have expanded on this in another topic, I think main thing people need to remember that this is first and foremost from my understanding a place to get help if features other than this are removed thats ok its only when the main goal is infringed on
I’m saying from experience, that you can have the best of both worlds. A technical forum alongside a more casual general forum, with a decent mod team is more than achievable.
I’m sure there are plenty of us here that have come for the community rather than the distro.
All I am saying is, firmer rules, remove the troublemakers right away. bigger mod team. People will quickly learn that shenanigans aren’t tolerated.
I’d just like to finish off with, any adult that calls another adult names because their opinion isn’t the same, isn’t really an adult.
I get what your mean, I’ve seen this forum change several ways in the past like this and it has been for the better in the end. In the end you do you and enjoy the journey
I do hope that the admin/mod team reconsider, I’m not holding my breath, nor am I holding up my hand to help (my days of dealing with keyboard warrirors is behind me). Good luck to all.
Other that that, as a feedback I’d say by default hide Lounge from main category i.e. where you land on https://forum.endeavouros.com/. IDK if such settings is available at Discourse.
By that way user posts that really require distro-specific/technical helps will be always visible on main and those who want to talk about other unrelated topics can manually go to such Lounge category.
I’d say this overcomplicates it. The forum is first and formost meant to be where someone can get help. By removing features that don’t attributute to this is frees up resources in one space (which is unrequired) to make the intial aim better. While these other features are nice to have I can see where the mods are coming from.
Before allowing yourself to get outraged take a step back, breathe and try understand. The mods have suggested at adding similar topics so instead of asuming the worst maybe have some hope, like I do, these guys have done a phenonemnal job in the past. Why doubt them now over 1 choice?
I understand your post wasn’t aimed at me, it just dawned on me that it looked a little bitchy, so…
I should clear this up, I’m not asking for the deletion because I am annoyed at this change, it’s because I don’t use Endeavour OS and so the technical side is useless to me. I can’t help with Arch issues, so no point having an account somewhere I won’t be active anymore.
I was here because I have a lot of time for Joe & Bryan and just wanted to talk Metal, beers, post screenshots and support the guys that supported me during my ArchLabs stint.
I’ve nothing to say about Lounge category. I had actually broken my system once, and I eagerly waited for help in the forum’s main thread. But it’s a little discouraging to see other Lounge threads get more attention filling up the main thread. Though I don’t need help as before, I get the feeling of new users.
Love the Lounge thread but perhaps better to hide from main Category.
