haha and now I read my message it looked like I was saying your message was bitchy…bloody hell…I meant my account deletion may have looked bitchy. Apologies.
I was arguing with myself back and forth if I should say a word about this. So here I am.
This attitude “I am leaving this forum because the Lounge is closing” is Kindergarten. This is a technical forum and it is well known for its friendliness and hospitality. If you have nothing to contribute to help other users with Linux issues you are wrong in this forum anyways.
If you have something to contribute then I do not understand why you want to leave this fantastic community just because the Lounge is closing. That makes absolutely no sense to me.
Read further into the thread, I explain myself a little further about it. Nothing kindergarten about it all.
Couldn’t disagree more, but I’m not really interested in a back and forth.
Guys, my two eurocents, first at this topic:
A conditional “delete id, else” seems… uncool, but you do you. But Mastodon can never and will never be a replacement for a board. (milkytwix@social.tchncs.de)
Second, at the removal itself:
As much as I love and respect the guys, I dislike this situation very much. And what I dislike even more is the fact that there is no central point in discussion about it, so now it is spread all over the forum, because we as a community dislike it.
To add some constructive matters: I would volubnteer as a moderator, if that helps. I am not often enough online, though, but adding mods just for the lounge would be the solution I would have prefered. The solution now came quite… quick. ![]()
@EOS Staff: Whatever you do, I will respect it and still love you. But a tiny bit less, that is.
@mbod, further to my post above, you made some good points and you are 100% correct and I agree. I do object to the “kindergarten” remark though
and this is why:
I should explain, again, I came here because I go quite far back with both Bryan and Joe. I’m not pretending we are best friends or anything like that, but we have all supported each other’s projects. I still chat with Joe on Telegram, admittedly a lot less than I used to (my fault).
All I wanted to do was hang out here, share music, beer, screenshots, wallpapers whatever with the same like-minded people. Of course, as a long time (now ex)Arch user I always perused the help forums to see if I could help but as I hadn’t used Arch in quite some time, I felt out of sorts putting my two cents in.
So with me not being feeling comfortable offering any technical advice, the main threads I participated in being closed, I felt it was time for the account to go.
In no way am I doing this out of anger, or frustration, I am one of those users who are of no use on a technical forum for a distro they don’t use.
I also don’t want to cause any issues on a forum run by people I respect.
@mbod This truly is a fantastic community.
Ok. But your deletion request really has some bad taste to me and probably others. First of all, you are putting pressure on the admins who run this show. You claim that you want to leave because they did something wrong. And you do not want to be part of this project anymore because they did something wrong. That really has a bad taste.
If that is the case, I do not understand why you did put them on the spot. Are they your buddies and you want to support their project? Why not communicating privately with either one of them discussing their decision. But instead you decided to make it a big deal by telling the whole community here that you want to leave because they did something wrong. I dont understand that.
Anyways, I wish you all the best. Bye.
Cannot agree with you more. From what I have seen in Mastadon, it is simply not a replacement for a board or forum like the one that EOS has. It is a different beast altogether. Not saying Mastadon is bad. It seems like Twitter, which I left long long time ago.
I get the angst that forum members have with this decision. I agree with the mods and @EOS staff. They do a fantastic job with the limited resources.
For sure, again you make good points. Yeah, I handled it wrong, I wasn’t trying to add pressure to the Admins or putting them on the spot. The intention was to just remove my account from a forum that I no longer felt I had any value to offer …for some reason handling it via PM wasn’t something that entered my head.
No doubt, those who think I did this with malicious intent will think otherwise, but it is what it is.
@Bryanpwo at @joekamprad huge apologies, my actions in classic Dobbie fashion were not handled in the right way.
Apologies to all. I wasn’t trying to stir up dissent or shit on the mods, I just did not have my brain engaged when I made this post.
I certainly deserve an account deietion on that alone.
I think
No but if it is your wish no one will deny it
I don’t think I have any come back from this monumental cock up.
No idea where my brain was at. Certainly not in my head.
I can relate to this
The quicker this thread is deleted the better.
