For future installations, EXT4 or Btrfs

Ok, ok, I got it. Btrfs isn’t for girls. And no worries, my new install - had to do it twice yesterday - is on Ext4. :innocent:

This is ridiculous. You are asking several hundred people here on this forum about their opinion. You will get votes for this and that. They will probably be equally distributed and you do not want explanations. How will you then come to your decision what to do? Are you expecting the ONE answer? There is no ONE answer. You need to make up your own mind. But how is that supposed to work if you do not want explanations? I guess your decision making process is flawed.

I tell you my opinion regarding ext4/btrfs: I am not using either one of these filesystems. I use XFS for the installation. I will not explain why.

No, not generally. In many cases, most cases, compression makes reads and writes to disc faster. But it uses more CPU cycles. It will slow down reads and writes with files which can hardly be compressed, e.g. PNG, MP3 files, etc. But if you make a benchmark with pure text files for example, the performance gain with compression will be significant.

Oh my sweet little summer child, you got that sooo wrong. I didn’t ask for long-winded techy explanations since they would only bore me and leave me even more confused. No time for stuff like that. And yes, I kinda do expected one answer, at least a majority of answers to be the same. Since only one answer is possible:
Q: Do it or don’t?
A: 98% Don’t, 2% Do.
Case closed, course of action is clear.
That’s what we ask experts for, isn’t it?

So it slows down my computing experience. That’s exactly what I suggested and why I stay away from compression.

I just reread my post and couldn’t find a single f-word. I’m as innocent as a 54 y/o hippie punk can be. :innocent:
Oh, and the language used is DEnglish afaik, my own sort of wannabe English. It’s a try and error thing.
Thx for voicing your concern.

Do you really feel the need to play into outdated stereotypes? I’d like to believe we leave those at the door when working with and supporting one another.

That’s a Contradictio in adjecto :face_with_monocle:

Hippie and Punks never were innocent

Huh? Explain please. Or do not. I don’t care much.

OK, it seems like the original question has been answered at this point.
