Firefox->Vivaldi

Well, I suddenly decided (yeah kinda sudden) that with the way Mozilla.org has gone lately, maybe I finally say goodbye to Firefox, with a sad wave. Mozilla seems to have lost it’s way (and possibly it’s mind) and it’s funding is primarily Google (sigh), who wants it to exist only as an anti-monopoly stumbling block.

So, then where do I go? I search around a while and read threads and decided to sail to Vivaldi. Not sure I’m staying, but I’m not unhappy at this point. Still, if anyone has something to say, I’d be glad to read it

I switched from Firefox to Vivaldi almost a year ago now, I did switch back for a few weeks in between but I’m still happy with Vivaldi since I made the switch. You may ask why because I don’t like any of the other Firefox-forks and I don’t really trust Mozilla anymore right now and I also want to keep using account sync and from what I can tell with Vivaldi is that it’s store encrypted because you generate a separate key for your account aside from the normal password for your account.

So you decide to switch from a shady foundation to an even more shady corp? What is the thought process behind it?

Imho firefox - especially forks of it - is the least shitty way to go. All of them are shit, but at least its Floss…

I went with Zen Browser, with Librewolf in the back of my mind. I’m not comfortable with the direction Mozilla’s been headed to recently, but I don’t want to contribute to Chromium’s monopoly on the web.

I have been using the Zen browser for a bit now and really like it. While it’s not perfect its very comfortable feeling. Its more privacy focused and I believe its still in Beta. So just getting better. I do have Brave as another browser that I use for certain task but that is getting more into the Discussion that is another thread here all together.

I used Vivaldi as my main browser for a few weeks recently, but ultimately returned to Firefox. Firefox’s Strict Enhanced Tracking Protection combined with uBlock Origin eliminates all adverts etc for me, and the combination of Vivaldi and uBlock Origin let a few slip through.

Because Firefox on Android has lots of addons while the Chromium based browsers have none, it’s clearly the best option for my phone, and being able to sync bookmarks and send tabs between laptop and phone is very useful to me.

I’m definitely keeping an eye on Vivaldi, but right now all Chromium browsers are too hobbled by Manifest V3 for me.

I hated having to jump ship to Chromium, but I just felt like the Firefox line was dying…and I say that with the realization I’ve been on Mozilla’s browser since the earliest days, Netscape Navigator. So this totally is a pre-meditated action.
I have used Zen too and kinda liked it, but again it’s Mozilla based, it basically has a single developer, and it’s just a little flaky (and I say that because so much of what I do these days is inside a browser). Bearing in mind, I left Zen about 3 months back..maybe it’s changed

There is always the Ladybird browser, if anything come from it in the future that is. But I think someone else will invest in Firefox if Mozilla fails, who knows though I’m not an expert in software development in general.

I admit, I would be happier if there were more choices ;( (ie chromium or mozilla)

For now, I’m still with Firefox.

Same. I’m using Firefox, though I also have Vivaldi installed as a secondary browser.

I have become familiar with Librewolf, and if it does not work for a few websites/functions, Firefox is used. If both browsers don’t work either then Ungoogled Chromium is used as the last resort.

I tried Vivaldi for a couple of months and I quite liked it, but I prefer Firefox. I’m back on Firefox but will use Vivaldi if Firefox goes away or becomes unusable.

librewolf makes a perfect replacement to me

Perhaps have a browse here. There are a few other options that use WebKit, Goanna (fork of Gecko), and a couple more obscure options.

good old times  But for now i’m happy with LibreWolf.

This was the first browser I downloaded with my modem. It took me a week to get it

Have been using Floorp for last 3years i guess. Its almost a 1to1 copy of firefox, but without the way in wich mozilla.org has gone lately…
Now its esr, but it will be going to a normal version in September
Maybe you should check it out, if you haven’t already

So far I haven’t liked any Firefox-forks, can everyone here who using a Firefox-for here tell me which is the best Firefox-fork? What I also don’t like about Firefox-forks is that if you want to use account sync that you have to use Firefox account sync anyways.
