Final goodbye

Hello everyone.

Today is the day when I will have to quit using Linux. It is very sad for me. Although I have not been in the Linux community for very long (only 5 years), I have become so attached to this kernel and systems based on it that switching to Windows is like tearing a piece of my soul away from myself.

All these distrohops and fixing problems for 5 years and finally finding the ideal distribution for me in the form of EndeavourOS - all this is lost due to the oppression of the enterprise

Due to my new place of work, I will no longer be able to use EndeavourOS and Linux in general. Because the programs that I will be given access to next week only work on Windows.

As much as I do not want to leave the Linux community, as well as the EndeavourOS community, I have to do it, because the job I got is my dream job.

Thank you all very much for all the support you have given me during my time using EndeavourOS.

It is time to say my final goodbye

Thanks! But on my personal PC I have to use Windows, because I will also work at home

You can dual-boot or run EndeavourOS in a vm on Windows?

I don’t know tbh. Throughout my Linux-at-home history I always used only one system on my PC for all tasks such as gaming, working etc.

If in some time software that I will be using will come out on Linux. I will immediately switch back

Then I would just run it in a vm if you still want to use EndeavourOS for certain things. What software are you using?

I don’t think I need to game or work with documents using a VM.

For my work I will be using Altium Designer, Ansys Electronics Desktop and AutoCAD (at least for now). I could use FOSS alternatives but I can’t due to my employer’s software policy

To get a dream job is something that doesn’t happen often in this world, and often to achieve that means sacrificing something to gain it. I’m really happy for you.

Maybe your path will someday cross ours again. :vulcan_salute:

A dream job that forces you to use windows? Eh. I don’t know :cowboy_hat_face:

Goodbye and good luck with the new job. Use Linux/EndeavourOS on your personal PC, that’s what many of us do.

Well, the enterprice software requires me to switch to Windows on my personal PC and also use it on my PC in office :frowning:

After all, I was chasing my dream to get a good job that I will like. And as @Dinomonster said

that sounds like hell but yeah just my opinion LOL

i am not profient enough in windows or linux to help fix anyones computer but if i was stuck using windows all day it would definitely cause me to have panic attacks/anxiety/negative emtions all day LOL my god i am glad i don’t have that job

i have had it with mac and windows they are both bloat/adware/spyware/idk a nightmare

i still use google but hate it cuz it is a monopoly in my eyez

sorry to lose you though good luck with your job… i didn’t mean to be mean REALLY GOOD WISHES AND ALL (personally will always be happier on Linux here though. It just feels like home.)

Ansys has a video on their website explaining how to install their suite on the Linux platform. might be worth a look at the very least.

That being said, i would consider using a VM or Bottles (WINE) and install all 3 in the same container environment. That way, if your employer needs to keep tabs on your work remotely, you could keep the rest of your system as yours and not theirs.

In any case, i wish you the bets of successes in your future… endeavours  :purple_heart:

The great thing about Linux and the EnOS community is that whenever you can use it again and be back, we’ll be here!

You could also do like I did. Have more than 1 disk on your PC, and dual boot BUT install each separately. So unplug the disk you want for Linux and only plug in the disk for Windows. Install Windows and the programs you need for work, the end.

Then unplug that one, and plug in the other one. Install Linux in there for your daily personal use! I want to uninstall Windows as well, but currently looking for a job and I know for a fact some of them like to “check your specs” and if I’m on Linux they’ll discard me. So just in case I still have it on there, but I don’t do anything on it anymore unless I must.
Best of luck on the new job!

P.S.: I realized that due with time constraints, you might not have the time to experiment with virtual machines to see if you can keep your Linux install for now and that’s ok. If you want to try later without bricking your PC, you could try installing WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) and have your little penguin shenanigans on the side and get this: you can install a Windows VM inside WSL while running Windows natively! (the things that some Linux Youtubers do to get more views can be wild, believe me  ).

I admit that this way will require extra steps by the dozen but if you can achieve this eventually, you could easily switch back to Linux with a Windows VM or… keep this setup as a cool party trick, you decide!
