We need no assistance complaining about idiotic US dumbing down of the languageā€¦ and we get angry when reminded that English is extremely difficult to learn because of the many complexities of the mixing of origins and thoroughly depressed to see that itā€™s taking over the world.

Of course, that is the older people who actually learned to spellā€¦ takeing a spin arownd the internet, you know like reddit and all that - most Britishers just spel stuff any way they lioke.

Iā€™m more bothered by datesā€¦ what idiot decided to use 4-3-21 as the third day of the fourth month?

Nah, English is super easy to learn. Try Middle Egyptian

What bothers me is referring to the ground floor as the ā€œfirst floorā€.

Do these people even program in C? Arrays always start from 0!

Letā€™s get back on topic!

Personally, I think 3-4-2021 is equally as bad.

For me, the only valid order is 2021-4-3, that way it can be sorted more easily.

Speaking of color pickers, the KDE plasma color picker plasmoid is very handy too.

Screenshot_20210312_151745

  • Picks a color
  • Has a color history
  • Allows copying in different formats

The only thing missing is a magnifier for exact positioning.

More than the British know how to spell!

Canada is a safe harbour for correct spelling (most of the time)

Some might already be familiar with this app for Android for watching Youtube with no tracking from
G:dark_sunglasses:gle. I just found about it a couple of weeks ago.

Here is also a recent video about it:

As I was searching for a way to list all installed fonts by name with a text sample I found PrintMyFonts. Itā€™s a small tool which allows you to list all installed fonts with an text sample set in the specific font. It allows you to export this list into various formats (JPG, PNG, BMP, HTML Website, via a PDF printer as PDF or as DOCX-, ODT- or RTF-document). I chose to export to .odt, which resulted in opening LibreOffice displaying all the output instantly. I then set the page to a two column setup to make better use of the space a page offers and to reduce the number of pages (still 25  ). After that I exported the Office document to PDF format.
This now allows me, depending on the type of document Iā€™m creating, to find the best suited fonts very easily.
The small program does have some hickups but it absolutely fits for the purpose. Itā€™s available for Linux, MacOS and Windows. I chose to download the executable binary because the site only offers .deb and .rpm packages.

Maybe I am not the only one in need of such an overview.

To give you an idea of how it looks like :

When the task is to find duplicates I have been using dupeguru for quite some time now. As far as I can see it uses superior algorithms compared to similar tools.
It can easily be built from AUR.

dupeGuru is efficient. Find your duplicate files in minutes, thanks to its quick fuzzy matching algorithm. dupeGuru not only finds filenames that are the same, but it also finds similar filenames.

dupeGuru is good with music. It has a special Music mode that can scan tags and shows music-specific information in the duplicate results window.

dupeGuru is good with pictures. It has a special Picture mode that can scan pictures fuzzily, allowing you to find pictures that are similar, but not exactly the same.

dupeGuru is customizable. You can tweak its matching engine to find exactly the kind of duplicates you want to find. The Preference page of the help file lists all the scanning engine settings you can change.

dupeGuru is safe. Its engine has been especially designed with safety in mind. Its reference directory system as well as its grouping system prevent you from deleting files you didnā€™t mean to delete.

The only downside (at least for some people) might be that it is not a tool for use in a terminal.
