EndeavourOS hangs on boot (display drvr)

Hi,

I must say at first - getting into Arch linux even with EndeavourOS has pretty damn steep learning curve. More on this later.

However my problem:
I’m running Dell Precision 5510 laptop with Nvidia Quadro M1000 graphics card. I installed Nvidia-drivers using these instructions. Everything went fine no problems, no errors. It told me to reboot so I did.

After reboot it wouldn’t boot so I disabled quiet mode. I have these messages as the last messages before it hangs:

[ OK ] Started Light Display Manager
[ OK ] Created slice system-systemd\x2dbacklight.slice.
          Starting Load/Save screen ?of leds:dell::kbd_backlight
[ OK ] Finished Load/Save screen ?s of leds:dell:kdb_backlight
[ OK ] Finished Load/save Random seed

And here I am completely stuck again, thinking whether it’s really worth it to try to get into Arch Linux. I have already had fair share of problems with Wifi, bluetooth and EndeavourOS accessibility -option that I accidentally installed. Tbh I spent 2 days fixing bluetooth/wifi so kinda feeling tired of yet another challenge. Btw I kinda disagree with Arch wiki saying bluetooth is more stable used from CLI - I have the opposite experience.

And I haven’t even started configuring tiling window manager that is one of my targets for using linux in the first place. Before that I should fix mouse scrolling speed and it doesnt seem like easy either.

So please… Tell me should I start fixing this problem? :upside_down_face:

Hello, what processor do you have?

That should be Nvidia display port / 4k monitor bug i believe, blame green!

Until it’s fixed unfortunately best way out is to switch for free nvidia drivers…

Not sure if request for help or just rant…

Fair enough =) I have looked for solutions for this issue for few hours as well. Haven’t found one yet. These are the sources I have been looking at…

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA_Optimus#Using_PRIME_render_offload
+Dozen forum / reddit -threads.

Thanks! I noticed this as well. tty2…3 etc are working without problems. But display manager doesn’t start as you say.

Is there any way to export Xorg.0.log easily from terminal into some place where I could post/link it here if it helps?

Also tried this script. I’m using LightDM btw.

If I type xrandr it says “Can’t open display”.

You can upload that directly, or rather copy its contents (just use cat in the terminal to read the file), to a pastebin. Depending on how much or how little it is, you can paste the contents here, enclosed in code tags (three backticks, enter, paste code, enter, three backticks).

There’s also a couple of tools to grab logs for you, and I think the links to those are top right under Help, but I haven’t used those myself so you’ll have to figure those out yourself.

3 hours in trying to resolve… Output of:

@Eraseri
Did you set up all the optional nvidia enhancements.

Also did you set logind-check-graphical=true

If your thinking is that everything has a copy-paste quick-fix then no, Arch probably isn’t worth it. You probably want to start with Ubuntu or Mint.

Thanks for help!

Another thing I noticed is that when I SSH into computer, the SSH-client gives me error: X11 forwarding request failed on channel 0.

Installed arandr and… Well I don’t know how to configure arandr from CLI. I’m starting to think I have messed xorg somehow because of these error messages.

arandr --help
Unable to init server: Could not connect: Connection refused
Unable to init server: Could not connect: Connection refused
Usage: arandr [savedfile]

Another XRandrR GUI

Options:
--version show program's version number and exit
-h, --help show this help message and exit
--randr-display=D Use D as display for xrandr (but still show the GUI on
the display from the environment; e.g. `localhost:10.0`)
--force-version Even run with untested XRandR versions

I edited lightdm config and set logind-check-graphical=true

I ran the nvidia optional enchantments. There was …somekind of progress. Now my cursor isn’t blinking any more in top left corner after I boot. Now it just sits there. It used to blink previously. I booted without quiet-mode. So unfortunately it didn’t help. I didn’t run the enchament to avoid screen tearing or build hook.

Here is my Xorg.0.log

I’ve been using Ubuntu for some time now and surely it has it’s own problems =)

Here is my lightdm config. I tested with and without the display_setup.sh-script

lightdm --show-config
   [Seat:*]
A logind-check-graphical=true
A display-setup-script=/etc/lightdm/display_setup.sh
A greeter-session=lightdm-gtk-greeter
A user-session=i3
A session-wrapper=/etc/lightdm/Xsession

   [LightDM]
A run-directory=/run/lightdm

Sources:
A /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

Hmm. I checked status of lightdm-service and there seems to be something going on when I hammer buttons. Cursor is steady at top-left corner, otherwise blank screen.
