Enable update notifier

Hi there,
I’m just new with endeavour os and have an question - how it is possible to enable an update notifier in the systray?
I found some information here:

But I don’t have the mentioned button in the welcome screen:

Also the file…
/etc/eos-update-notifier.conf
… is not findeable in my system.

I’m using the KDE-version. Could you please help me?
Thanks in advance.

Rather than adding another app or extension, you could use a script instead.

Welcome to the forums @John_Schrott , to be honest I can’t remember how many days there wasn’t an Arch / Arch base OS without an update over all the years. The script above from @ddnn will do you well. I just always assume there’s going to be updates.

Thanks!
Yes it’s no prio1-topic for sure, just nice to have. I used Manjaro before and there was a systray-icon included (but there were some other problems instead).

Another alternative might be the installation of OctoPi. As it includes a tray icon which will indicate visually if updates are available.

At least I’ve got it installed for that purpose primarily. Every once in a while it comes in handy to have an GUI to browse the installed packages. But for the most part I solely do updates via yay.

Doesn’t Manjaro use Pamac? It has an update notifier in it. you can edit /etc/pamac.conf. This has been the predominant method I’ve used in the past, but no longer use the notifier.

eos-update-notifier is not installed by default anymore, but is still available in the repo. If you want to use it, you can install it with Pacman.

sudo pacman -S eos-update-notifier
