That sounds weird to me. The first thing I did after switching from Mint Cinnamon to an Archy KDE desktop was to open my /timeshift home folder and copy configs for my gestures, terminal, qbittorrent etc. It means that not long after the initial 15 minutes install, maybe 5 minutes later my seeding torrents and RSS setup are working again.
I guess it comes down to how far you customise and how much that differs from the basic setup. Mine’s pretty weird compared to vanilla I guess… fits me like a glove.

Think installed applications, not custom configs: It can be just as quick to reinstall the OS and applications as to restore the OS and applications from a backup.
I’ve now been using endeavour OS as my main distro
