Desktop freezing randomly multiple times a day ..... How to know if its the CPU or Motherboard

I am attaching a video of the freeze. Please raise the audio volume of your desktop/laptop/mobile device otherwise you won’t understand.

Suppose I am watching a video which says “How are you” when the freeze happens I keep hearing “you you you you”

I wrote before that suing REISUB I was able to reboot my desktop. Now that too is not working. I could not that show that in this video coz I was holding my phone with one hand.

This is the video >> https://mega.nz/file/a2IHCIbI#v2nei7QhqZi3rEKQdLnrLW8N7L6wnbfMEdx8qZr47lI

This all sounds like a power issue. Either the power supply is dying, or you have dirty power coming in from the electrical grid. I would replace the cheap no name power supply with a reputable one to start with to see if your issues go away. Seasonic is my go to brand, and has been for years. Corsair appears to make decent ones these days as well.

The other item you may want to get is an UPS to help regulate the voltage on the power going to the unit

The hanging you mentioned, video freezing, audio getting stuck, I faced the same problem once. But it was intermittent. This was a couple of years back. I was on Debian Buster/Arch dual booting. It was happening in both. Turned out it was a hard disk problem. I used to, and still do, have a lot of Power Outages where I live ( just outside Calcutta ). Anyway, smartctl showed a lot of uncorrectable error count. Solution was to get a new hard disk and UPS with good PSU.

Good luck.

P.S. Amar Pujar phool? Kishore?

Okay I will buy a PSU within 4-5 days and report back.

[OFF TOPIC] @subluminal
Yes, Kishore da is my favorite. No one can replace him.

This is very true and sometimes it’s a judgement call based on experience and intuition. Sometimes it’s best as i said to test with a known good power supply such as a new one.

The power supply is often an overlooked component, but in my opinion it is the single most important component to the longevity of your equipment. A bad one can and will take out all of your other components either quietly or in a literal blaze. The up side to a good PSU is that they also tend to last a very long time, particularly if you are not pushing them to their limits.
