Desktop Environment or Window Manager?

Thanks @BONK :+1:t3:

I agree, you need some time to learn it
but for me it was worth it, Iā€™m faster with i3
and there not a lot of packages installed, thatā€™s also why I like it a lot

EOS i3 work perfect out of box !! no flash, no pointless stuff it only have what you need to start. it clean and fast

like DE if it no installed what you need then " sudo pacman -S "

I am using Desktop Enviroments since the beginning of my usage of Linux. I do love the unixporn posts of the different WMS.
I want to try a WM maybe sometime. Donā€™t know what the easiest WM is to step into? i3?
And is it still possible like on KDE to let QT and GTK apps look the same?

Always love to try to learn something

Hahaha, atm downloaded a few isos. Gonna try awesome, openbox, i3 today. Maybe try some others. I really want to learn something again. I am running Arch KDE for sometime now, and I miss learning new stuff atm.

For me personally, it is a Desktop Environment. I have never really gotten into using a Windows Manager. However, it is on my list of things to try out someday.

I have used i3 for quite some time. I have an my configs and dot files. Iā€™m too lazy to use it anymore. Itā€™s too much work for me and generally prefer a full DE.

What wm would you suggest me to use that is less effort than i3 and subsequently, less effort than the DEā€™s I think are easier than i3?

My suggestion would be to try a distro with one of them. I would use Endeavour i3, and make all of your adjustments to the config files you want until you get it as youā€™d like. Save your json and dot files before going to Arch i3. Unless you really want to build it from nothing.

Sounds like a good plan. I will first try it in a vm ofcourse. Although Arch KDE is doing good! I just want to get a bit more minimal

There is rice-iso out there:

Maybe a good out of the box start, but iā€™d prefer to dive in deep! :joy:

maybe this video can help:

anyway, I had chosen i3, why itā€™s not very difficult to learn, itā€™s very well documented and itā€™s still updated regularly

you can find a lot of videos and config files of i3

and then Iā€™ve moved to SwayWM on Wayland

All tiling WM need effortā€¦ same for DE if you make it own style

@cipolla
most of that is not new tile wm friendly ā€¦ good video + i like DTā€™s channel  it helpful for all levels

I donā€™t need help. Iā€™m fairly well versed in it. Is just more effort than I care to input anymore. Thank you though.

I switched to i3 from Xmonad a few months ago and donā€™t regret it. It has sane defaults and performs better, so Iā€™m happy! Havenā€™t had a full DE in years.

What i meant was if i3 or any window manager is already set up. I find it hard to figure out how to set it up. I know little about the configs. How to change it, how to set it up? Most people donā€™t want to do these things. That is what i meant that it is already pre-configured.

Oh i3 has great defaults. Iā€™ve barely touched mine. Endeavour seems to jazz it up even more.
