I’ve been hitting the roads since January. . . .
Jan. 31.5 miles
Feb. 52.5 miles
Mar. 136.5 miles
Apr. 105 miles to date. . . (20th of Apr.)
Loving every minute of it. . . you got a rear view mirror mounted on your helmet? They are great if you haven’t got one yet. Keeps you safe from idiot drivers coming from behind. . . My biggest fear.
So far I’ve been lucky vigilantly watching the fools and their erratic driving behavior as they approach from my rear.
Be safe most importantly . . .
Rich;)
No, I don’t have a mirror on my helmet - it would annoy me and I would rip it off ![]()
I use a mirror like this ![]()
I also use a rear-view radar ![]()
Thanks! ![]()
I love that there’s a cyclist’s corner here! I’ll be cycling up the west coast of France all July - anyone here in that region?

Pudge
Grand total for this month:
Apr. 30, 2025 157.5 miles on the bicycle
in addition I walked 70 miles. . . . phew.
The walking is by far the ‘total body workout’. . . . . May is tomorrow and I think we’ll be
getting rain . . . .let’s hope so for now. Bicycling is a great cardio-vascular workout on the system
but walking for me is the toughest work out on the upper and lower torso.
Stay healthy my friends. . . .

It’s still pretty cool and the wind is strong. I don’t remember such a may for a long time…
But I still go out on fine days ![]()
Over here the weather is consistently good enough to go for longer bike rides. So last Thursday i rode my first long ride (160 km) of the year, and yesterday i took my trusty inline skates for a spin and rode 40 km - I’m really relieved that over here the season to be out and about is upon us again.
170 miles on the bike so far for the month of May. . . . not bad considering it’s for maintaining fitness and total body health. . . also walked 80.5 miles this month too. . . that’s the hardest for me, but the more times you do it the easier it gets. . .

I wish i could bike this length or a bit…cannot leave home..
Just saw this thread for the first time ![]()
I have an old Mountain Bike that i use for riding to work.
But i need a new one. I think of getting a Trekking Bike.
How I missed this thread before is a mystery to me—but I guess I didn’t expect to find so many fellow cyclists in the Linux community! ![]()
So, here’s my little Cyclist Introduction:
I’m (almost) 51 years old. Besides being a lifelong nerd, I’ve been riding bikes since I was a kid. In the 90s, I raced Cross-Country and Downhill Mountain Bike. Then in the early 2000s, I shifted to longer distances with XC Marathons—until life (work and family) forced me to hang up the wheels for a while due to a lack of time.
About 8 years ago, I made my comeback—20 kg overweight and with stress levels through the roof. Getting back on the bike helped me lose the weight, lower my stress, and reconnect with what I love. I eventually transitioned from mountain biking to road cycling, since my back couldn’t take the same punishment anymore.
Over these past 8 years, I’ve averaged around 12,000 km per year, still holding on to my love for long solo rides. Yep, I’m definitely a bit of a lone wolf out there.
This year’s been a bit slower, with “only” about 3,800 km so far—but I’m building back up again!
This is my “mistress” ![]()
And today’s ride—well, I’m on vacation, so I’ve got plenty of time to do what I love most: long rides.
Good average speed
I have less, but I ride in other conditions ![]()
