I figured out a workaround and made cyberpunk 2077 great again.
Below is my brief overview of my adventure in refusing to use windows to play this game.
-
Game was bought on Gog
-
Gog does not have a native Linux game launcher
-
Downloaded Heroic Game Launcher to play windows games on Linux
-
Downloaded Cyberpunk 2077 through Heroic
-
Game worked out of the gate on the first try, hurray!!!
-
Closed game and shut down PC
-
Turn on PC at a later point and started up the game
-
Game would load up as normal but after around 5 seconds into the intro screens it would freeze and crash
-
Tried a different version of proton and the game loaded fine again. hurray!!!

Repeat until I ran out of proton versions.
-
Attempted to uninstall and reinstall, but it did not resolve issue.
-
Attempted to link the heroic exe to steam as a non-steam game and launch it.
-
Worked only the first time just like before.
-
Attempted to put —launcher-skip --intro-skip into the Launch options in steam to bypass the intro screens, but it did not work.
-----Successful Workaround-----
-
Donkey Kick the keyboard
-
Go into the directory that you installed Cyberpunk for me it was
* Heroic > Cyberpunk 2077 > archive > pc -
Created a folder called mod
-
Go to a place to download mods for the game
-
Download " No Intro Videos " mod
-
place the basegame_no_intro_videos.archive in the mod folder.
-
Launch game and have fun.
