I’m brand new to EOS, I’ve come here from Linuxmint, Manjaro.
I’ve been installing my Brother printer DCP 9022 CDW under Linux for years. It’s easiest under Manjaro and here under EOS, as the driver package was fully maintained in the AUR. Now the EOS update the printer as a referenced package:
aur/brother-dcp-9022cdw 1.1.3-4 (+4 0.00) (Orphaned) (Installed)
LPR and CUPS driver for the Brother DCP-9022CDW
==> Packages to be installed: (e.g. 1 2 3, 1-3 or ^4)
That bothers me! Now the printer is no longer new, but works perfectly over the network with a fixed IP address. What can I do about the referenced package?
Apparantly there hasn’t been a maintainer for this package, then it is marked “orphaned”.
What could you do? Become maintainer of this package in AUR!
AUR sources appear to be still most recent.
I only found it in German: https://www.brother.de/support/dcp-9022cdw/downloads
Thank you very much! I still have the following questions:
First I would uninstall the referenced package brother-dcp-9022cdw 1.1.3-4.
Now I still have to learn because I’m not sure which package I should install and how:
My printer is installed via WLAN using a Fritzbox with a fixed IP address. I also installed the CUPS service when I reinstalled EOS. It should also print and scan. Then it would be right to use the package brother-dcp-9022cdw 1.1.3-4 (LPR and CUPS driver)? How can I then install it with Yay?
just type yay brother-dcp-9022cdw (without the version number). And hit the enter key, next you will be given some lines with options , just hit enter after each line.
