Just finishing Uketsu’s Strange Houses. A short, easy read, but quite a strange tale.
The last months of the first quarter of this century, I was on a journey to read books of movies I have seen(Solaris,Stalker,Satantango, etc…).
Last book -found it used- for the year, finished in 2 days is the Greek edition of:
2001: A Space Odyssey by Arthur C. Clarke
I really like the film, and the book is on my reading list as well.
Also Rendezvous with Rama; have it as a radio play, but want to read the book at well.
In my “to be read” list too ![]()
I liked that one. The book was great the film was just boring. I was sad that 2010 odessey was following the film and not the book but when I got past that it was pretty good book too.
you should read the making of 2001. It was crazy
I read it, so that you don’t have to.
Very disappointment read, frankly. Two thirds too long, filled with SF clichés, linguistic clichés and storyline clichés - gradually morphing from SF into phantasy into messianic prose. And very sloppy prose at that.
But perhaps that’s just me being narrow-minded?
Wasn’t disappointed, there were lots of pew pew. Worst book I’ve read in 2025!
Next I’ll go for Blame by Jeff Abbott (Portuguese Edition)
Started today, Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry.
The only Greek translation I found was a -used but in amazing condition- 2 books pocket edition from 1985. The greek title is “Οι αετοί της Δύσης” (The eagles of the West) ![]()
“They say” it’s not about… pew pew. ![]()
This seems to be a terminal centric book. A lot of text, only a few colors, no gestures, no buttons to tap on. I think I should put it on my list. ![]()
I believe that I never read any Western without some sort of pew pew ![]()
I’m picking up “The End of the World” by Geoffrey Dennis from the list.
My reading has been greatly curtailed recently; cataracts have made reading difficult. (surgery next week).
Just finished Lars Brownworth’s Lost to the West: The Forgotten Byzantine Empire that Rescued Western Civilization. A huge, huge, HUGE disappointment. The ‘rescue’ of the West was a couple of paragraphs on the very last page. Lots of factual errors, some of them quite serious. The author initially admits the ‘Byzantine’ Empire is a misnomer — and then goes on to use the misnomer continuously. A waste of time.
I wish you the best ![]()
All the best!
Paolini somehow got published at 18 and he’s never grown past that. Sorry you were sucked into the morass.
Incredible book by an incredible woman. Part biography, part how-to, she’s a witty, smart, insightful, and genuinely warm human being. Highly recommended even for non-theater folks.
That sort of sums it up, really.
I’ve made a note of dame Dench’s book. ![]()
Yesterday I started reading The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon.
At the same time, I’ll also be reading The Secret History of the World, approaching it with an open mind, as I enjoy exploring different perspectives on our world’s history.
I finished Rendezvous with Rama by Arthur C. Clarke
Now I am 3/4 in the Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin. I know, the latest person to the party but I have listened the audiobook in English, now I am reading the Greek translation.
It’s on my list ![]()
I’m even more late to the party ![]()
