i have done update nvidia-dkms ( drivers 495 series )
and reboot and i get Xorg dump ( under mate ) , login GUI appears but always gets dump Xorg
There’s another thread going on trying to solve this:
Maybe you want to jump in there?
Perhaps it has to do with the Python update?
i have downgrade to version 495.44 ( was in cache , skip first version 495.46 , get 495.46-1 this morning )
=> nvidia-dkms
=> nvidia-utils
=> xnvctrl
it works with serie 495.44
with 495.46-1
screen login appears , just after login
==> abort & fail from Xorg immediately for the user login
I didn’t have any issue with my GTX 1060 on Xfce.
may come form glx to egl ?

Haha, i just wanted to make a PSA Thread about that.
I had the same problem today. After upgrading with pacman -Syu, nvidia-dkms and other packages upgraded to lastest version. And what already maked me curious that i didnt saw in the upgrade process that he rebuilded the dkms modules to the new version.
First i thought i simply missed the output and restarted. And voila. No X and so no Desktop.
Quick log reading showed me that he was still trying to load the old builded kernel modules and crashed with the Output:
NVRM: API mismatch: the client has the version 495.46, but
NVRM: this kernel module has the version 495.44. Please
NVRM: make sure that this kernel module and all NVIDIA driver
NVRM: components have the same version.
The simple fix was to rebuild the dkms modules with simply force reinstall nvidia-dkms.
added : test reinstall Mate and update from last Iso
==> still same error on login , Xorg Fails with nvidia 510-17 series
Mate , Sway ==> KO
Xfce OK , I3 OK
solution to login in Xfce with mate
add these option “systemd.unified_cgroup_hierarchy=true”
if not on login GUI , this is a root process Xorg running that can be used for User login
