i thought i will never change to another distro again. recently after one of my update failed and could not boot into EOS again. i did not have any EOS installer handy with me … i always had Antix linux or mx linux which would help me do a boot repair or some of the stuff i really dont fully understand and i will be back in EOS. this time the trick did not work.
so i had an installer of nixos this time around and installed nixos … thinking that i will be able to dual boot. when that failed i overwrote the entire hard disk after taking the backup of my working files.
one of my requirement is to have a python3.9 venv independent of the system OS. as a python programmer this is the important, other than few must have apps (venv, qtile). In this process, i had hopped to another flavour of nixos called zeneys os. it helped to gain better understanding of how nix os works because i need to customize the installer/setup scripts to my computer and requirements.
however, i was not able to setup python3.9 venv. after some try, again i decided to come back to EOS. this time around, ensure that i have archroot ready. setting up venv is a piece of cake with EOS with this great pyenv project
i am sure it is possible to achieve this in nix but i was not able to achieve this with nix package manager / os. it is just at this point i dont know.
i will post/link the small problems i faced when i installed EOS. (all are minor issues) to call it a perfect system.
