Arch is moving to Git packaging in the weekend of May 19th to May 21st

The Arch packages are going to transition to Git and therefore the packages and mirror sync services will be shut down that weekend. This shouldn’t have any effect on us, the end user, other than that there will not be rolling out updates that weekend.

The announcement was made by Levente Polyak, developer, and wrote:

We’re excited to announce that the rollout for our Git packaging
implementation is scheduled for Friday, May 19th. Please note that
packaging and mirror sync will not be possible during the rollout as
we’ll need to shut down the services. We expect the services to be
available and the rollout to be finished on Sunday, May 21th.

For users

Update your system and merge the pacman pacnew /etc/pacman.conf.pacnew file. This is required as we have moved the [community] repository into [extra].

sudo pacman -Syu "pacman>=6.0.2-7"
“Update the system and install pacman if the version of pacman is at least 6.0.2.7”
But please stay relaxed if the update hangs try again later before you start trying anything.
