TO ANY EOS FRIENDS IN OR AROUND L.A… STAY SAFE, I HOPE YOU’RE ALL OK!!
January 8, 2024 - Seeing the first daylight images on TV News of Los Angeles is heartbreaking. Neighborhoods are destroyed. LA is literally on fire with hurricane force winds and ZERO rain or humidity. The fire is 0% contained.
The winds right now are making it more unpredictible. Ashes and embers can be blown pretty far. I’ve had 80mph+ gusts yesterday and overnight, and projected through at least the end of the day.
Thanks for thinking of us! Being in the foothills of Hollyweird I’m sure the photos and videos will be awesome.
I’ll be fine. I’ve survived everything else up to this point. Everything of value from arms to paperwork ready to roll. Truck has the offroad stuff ready, with water, traction boards, shovel, and even a fuel siphon. I can be on the road in less than 5 minutes, and off road in less than 1.
And if all else fails I’ll throw the Thinkpad at it and that will teach it a lesson not to mess with me.
To be honest, I’m ready to move anyways, and a renters insurance check would save me a lot of work from moving a bunch of junk furniture. I just feel for my neighbors who actually have things to lose.
**for those who think I’m being negative or whatever. Life’s too short not to have fun. A little self deprecation and levity goes a long way.
Edit, this is actually one of 3 now in the area. My buddy just told me he’s getting evac over near Pasadena now. And another fire has come up at the top of the map there near Santa Clarita. . . So we’ve also got the Eaton Fire, and the Hurst fire at 10,000 acres and 500 respectively so far adding to it.
I hope this situation improved and becomes better and under control soon. And I hope everyone affected is safe and the damage is limited. I wish the best for all emergency response tackling this fire.
I know the words themself won’t help much, there isn’t too much I can do back here in Europe but I wanted to acknowledge what is happening in some way. I couldn’t imagine what it’s like to deal with something like this with evacuating and unknown of what to come back to.
It’s hard to do much overnight, although the helicopters are going. Winds are projected to pickup again and I have red flag warnings thru Friday afternoon at least. So, there’s still a ways to go.
Seeing the news this morning, the devastation in Los Angeles and Los Angeles County is unbelievable. Entire neighborhoods are completely destroyed, looking like a nuclear bomb wen off. Thousands of homes, businesses, schools… gone
