An interesting rant on Arch users

Ahh :man_facepalming:. I totally missed that!

You’re right you don’t have to download Arch if you are installing it on that computer. I don’t think there is one size fits all solution for everyone.

If that were all you cared about why aren’t you still using Windows or Mac? There’s no need to be some people like to cook some people like to fish some people like to install Arch the long way. Again this keeps going back around to the hobbyist.

I’m not a millionaire, that’s why I don’t use Mac. And I never cared for Windows. I first used Windows 95, and before 95 was over, was looking for replacements. AT no point was I happy with how Windows has (failed to) function. Had I found a distro before 99 that worked with my winmodem, I would probably have switched to linux far sooner than I did. But I didn’t have the $$$ to get a REAL modem, so I stuck with Windows until such a point as my winmodem worked in linux (well, at least 1 distro, LibraNet), and then moved to linux within the next couple years.

What are you trying to say that because someone doesn’t install Arch the long way they are just a hobbyist. It doesn’t matter how you install Arch. Arch is Arch! It doesn’t matter! I don’t get into this it’s not 100% Arch stuff or how it’s installed. BTW i use Arch and it’s EndeavourOS installed.

Well apart from gamers most Linux users do not spend much money on gear I certainly don’t 10 yearly I build a new Desktop using 6 month old new parts. I run Linux and Hackintosh,

I think you should watch or rewatch the initial video. That was his wording. Also, being a hobbyist or having a hobby means it’s what you do and enjoy doing. I used to put cars together. I definitely never needed to. It was my hobby.

If you use Endeavor, that’s awesome. It’s not truly Arch no matter how many times you post it. It can be posted enough times on this forum to completely overload the server. . . It’s still not Arch. There’s nothing wrong with that. Again, I love Endeavor! But unfortunately I can’t really have much more of a conversation with you about this. It’s like trying to talk to someone who doesn’t agree the sun sets in the west, or that water is not 2 hydrogen and 1 oxygen. We don’t agree on very basic fundamentals, there’s no way we can ever agree on anything beyond that.

Actually using the arch repros is not arch, as Ubuntu is not debian, as Fedora is not RH, as Pop OS is not Ubuntu, Mint is not Ubuntu,

I’m about the same, except no Hackintosh. My current desktop was built about a year after the Ryzen’s were released (after the 400 series chipsets were released exactly), then upgraded to the 3000 series processor maybe 6 months after they came out. I pretty much expect it’s going to be forced to last me for at least a few more years. Hopefully not as long as my last one was forced to last, as it was 10 years for most of the system, although it did go through 3 processors, 4 video cards and 2 sound cards (although only a second sound card because the first died).

I was just making the point if wasting time was your main concern, since your computer came with an OS and it would have saved you time to just use that.

That is to new for me I’m using a i5 haskwel By the time i use a Ryzen it will be fully adapted for Linux. Lol

I’d say with 5.7 kernel Ryzen is totally fine. I no longer have any issues with anything on my Ryzen desktop and that’s using DEBIAN (although backports kernel so 5.7).

Prior to the Ryzen I was using a AMD FX processor, that the system was originally built (w/ an Athlon II processor) when AMD was last competitive…

edit - if/when you attempt a Ryzen, just avoid the 1st gen…too many had actual silicon issues, and too many BIOS issues in the boards that were never fixed.

you all are banned now :ghost:

Archlinux is just:51vfuFJM7pL.AC_SY400
a kit

it is o.k to complain if you do really need, but if this thread goes over 200 post’s i will think on closing it. keep it simple and funny…

Everyone is here for the same reason because they like Arch. You can believe in your mind it’s not Arch. That’s your prerogative the same as i have my own thoughts on it. I’m not here to argue with you about it or agree with you because i don’t. I’m glad you love Endeavour. There are probably lots of things we wouldn’t agree on but that’s okay! I wouldn’t hold that against you for having your own thoughts.

That has been my route before
Look its been nice talking I’m British and we brits love to chit chat with others no offense is meant to anybody

Fair enough, I’m game. If it’s Arch. . . post it up! @ricklinux
