this is a long, but interesting thread, so forgive me if this has been answered.
Everything went to he** after the reboot (3)?
**also want to add I’m not a linux novice or a linux pro: nothing set off alarm bells to me in all that output.

Well, no.
I assume I got my files wiped while showing to my friend how great is KDE customization when I was testing splashscreens.
I just understood that after I rebooted my computer because I couldn’t launch any application ; I was even joking about that like “heh, even GNU/Linux can have issues, gonna reboot but cya (it was late)”.
And when I rebooted, I saw that everything was gone (even my good wallpapers about the game called “Blasphemous” - I recommend you to play it if you like 2D souls-like btw).
install theme then show (screen share) theme to a friend…then wiped/bricked…
I have screen shared in zoom before but no other app. I have to assume that’s handled by XDG or something?
I just don’t see where any funny business (black hatter) is involved. It happened just after you stopped screen sharing or while you were sharing. Either way it ‘sounds’ like kde’s explanation of ‘defective script’ somewhere.
now I’ve stated that for the world to read then the opposite must be true…
Ok, so more precision (sorry if i was not understandable):
The most possible thing is that something wrong happened when installing and I was unlucky (I’m always unlucky to be honest) because the KDE store sucks and it wasn’t the fault of anyone except me because I should have installed manually it instead of using the automatic install (what does the automatic install / remover do exactly?)
for my simpleton narrative that was close enough – to your 1. 2. 3.
“something went wrong” and I was “unlucky” is the common end of the stick I get in my linux endeavours (no pun) so you are not alone there.
like @smokey I crack the tarball and move to the folder manually…one time I hit install 2 weeks ago-an (online) friend’s theme, and have been looking over shoulder since…your thread seemed timely to me since it was gnome pling --don’t know what it auto install does exactly either.
Well, I’m gonna look for other ideas and if nobody has another idea to know what went wrong until this afternoon, I’ll do a fresh install and pray to not have a problem again.
(Jeez I wrote “french install” instead of “fresh install” the first time).
