Air Cooled vs Water Cooled.

I am very much looking forward to the Noctua. They are a great brand and have earned trust.

Yes…I’ve had very good luck with Noctua coolers…The last one I owned was a NH-D15…really large, but it did a good job…I got rid of it because it overhung the RAM too much…

This Noctua u12a shouldn’t hinder ram at all and theoretically has the same cooling as the d15.

I’m so interested in this at this point, I’m gonna use this just to see the differences between it and my 360 Asus AIO. . . I’m legit just intrigued now.

I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. I’ve never used water cooling ever.

Ya…the NH-D15 was HUGE…it kept my system in the mid-60c…but I’ve got a fair amount of RGB & covering some of it was not what I wanted…

I think the one you’ve got will work great for you…I’ve had wanted to go the AIO route (custom loops are nice…but the cleaning/upkeep are a REAL pain…) & with the heat I generate I would need something like the D15 to keep cool with air…the 420 works very well for me & I’m keeping an eye on the pump…

I’m running one of the hottest CPU’s ever. 5950x

Interesting…I’m running a i7-1400KF…don’t really have a feel for AMD.

And I won’t touch anything with pluton lol. So I why I built pretty much my last computer I’ll ever own

@fbodymechanic If that is possible, at least the temperatures would be enough for me. If not, that’s perfectly okay too.

Never had a need for water cooling (no overclocking, no heavy loads for hours).
My current ventirad, a Scythe Kotetsu Mark II, was good enough for the former Xeon E3 1270 and for the current Ryzen 5 5600X, 645g, 154mm height, pretty silent and cheap at the time I bought it (43€).

I’ve been building computers for over 20 years now & still enjoy doing it…The beast I currently have has been through 3 different motherboards, 4 different CPUs & 2 nVidia & 1 Intel GPU…Best case I’ve ever bought…

Room for anything I want to throw at it…currently has 7TB of drives (4TB NVME
on the motherboard & 3TB in a separate rear window). I have 4 operating systems on bare metal & house the home media storage + all the BOINC cruncher files…

Just for grins…the Keyboard is a modded Glorious GMMK3 in custom color & flashed to work with OpenRGB…I looked long & hard for the same color of gray that the case has to paint the top plate of the keyboard…I’m a 1/2 shade off…but you’d have to have the keyboard on top of the case to notice it… The GMMK3 has the “clicky” switches…real gratifying to type on…very positive feedback.

way too clean in there. there should be socks or a beer can on its side or spilled liquid in these pictures. A doritos bag. This is AI.

Explain that round mouse. That is way cool.

As water is a solvent the seal integrity become finite over time. Just install them and obsessively look for leaks daily. It’s like a custom water park inside your PC box.

I took the liberty of re-writing you  .

Well…The shot with the “mouse” is a trackball with a RGB inset…I’ve been using trackballs ever since I “got” Carpal tunnel…so trackballs are the best answer…Found that one on Amazon…it’s been discontinued—so I’m a little bummed about that…longer than a “normal” trackball, so it fits my hand very well…

And…I cleared my desk for the shot…The desk is glass & gray metal with a black keyboard tray…goes very well with the gray/black theme I want…

Normally there is at least a mug of coffee on the left side…

The “full” shot…

ah, shoulda picked up on that but I didn’t. great setup. the hand fit is everything–carpal is a serious affliction for people I know. Anything that can mitigate the pain is a good thing.

Need some more pictures from inside of the cabinet and around it. Are you using air cooling or water cooling? And your user id seems to suggest that you left Debian ecosystem for an Arch. If possible can you please shed some light on it?

I am very very happy with my gmmk pro keyboard. I went with their panda switches and found some keys on ebay I like and it’s fantastic. I’ve still got some backup switches and some keys. But it’s been an absolute joy to work on.

Yes—I’m liking my GMMK3…I changed the switch mounting plate from aluminum to polycarbonate..made the click deeper sounding…using the Glorious Raptor Green switches.

Hi Archie1!!! I was a Debian user for many years…Started with Ubuntu in 2006 & was in the testing group…then after the “Unity” desktop started, in short order went to Mint Debian & then to Debian as a Beta tester—used Unstable-Sid for many years. Finally grew tired of the slow walk of Debian & ended up here…

If you look up the thread, you’ll see a couple more pictures…I’m currently using an AIO…been building computers for over 25 years & I’ve made several custom-loop water & had several favorite air coolers. I bought this case almost 4 years ago when it first came out…Phanteks has become one of my favorite companies…

I had no health issue, but I’m glad I switched to trackball few years ago, I’ll never go back to the mouse. You don’t need to move your arm constantly , it’s such a comfort, I wish I did it sooner.

I use this :
