You don’t even know how to install packages yet, stop worrying about “what ifs” at this point. Discover in Fedora will work fine and after you get more familiar with things you can tinker and fine tune things as you want. You’re going to do more damage fumbling around worrying about things now that you don’t need to. You’re making this way harder on yourself than it needs to be.
I have no idea why you posted that link from the fedora forum as it is specific to one piece of software. You can find a million links on every distro about a problem that you may never face. Picking out one and hyper-focusing on it is going to drive you crazy.
Exactly. Whatever distro I choose to install on my laptop, I just install, update, and use it. I use any Linux distro much the same way I used Windows back in the day. Once installed and updated, I just use it. I don’t go digging around and tinkering until I understand things FULLY. And “what if” never crosses my mind.
But you did EXACTLY that, early on with EOS and now seemingly with Fedora… you’re making yourself go crazy, and over complicate stuff. You went looking for problems and issues that didn’t exist for you.
If I read through the EOS forum (or any other distro’s forum) for the first time, most of what I would see are users having problems they need help with. Because that’s what the forum is for, seeking help and advice. So of course I’d see many people having issues with their installs. That doesn’t mean I need to worry about any of it.
Just install, and use your distro of choice. Wait until an actual problem happens before you start worrying. IF a problem occurs, THEN seek assistance. “What if” never helped anyone. It just makes one anxious.
No need to worry about that IF will occur at some point. That is life. However if you spend your life focusing on the end, did you really live? Stop worrying about the if and allow yourself to see the beauty of learning but most importantly allow yourself the joy of Living.
Pretty much everything has been said but I’m going to chime in so bear with me.
End is something that awaits us all may it come in different forms and ways. Life is not fair, but I think it is not meant to be and think that us all that have this chance to be on the Web on our computers and be able to argue about everything under the sun should be grateful of that.
Not everyone is able to do that and not probably ever will.
I am going to be spoilsport and say that there is no truth in a way you put it in your first post. Truth always depends on the one who is speaking. Someone else’s truth is no truth to other and there is no absolute truth that you can make everyone accept. And there is no need to. There is room for us everyone and all we are precious as the way we are.
I think you are making this distro hopping little bit too serious. I do not know your age but my guess is that you are somewhat young. Enjoy about the choices you make whatever they may be! Distro hopping and finally landing on something that feels like home is wonderful feeling!
Mandrake worked fairly well. Mepis was a good starter for me. Before it was ? ? ? Man, it’s hard to remember where it all began. . . Back in the days of the ‘286’. . . .
Yep. A simple spelling error. And he said he’d only been on Fedora for 5 minutes in that thread he started. Had he just checked to be sure, or tried again there may have never been a need to create a thread. Five minutes is barely enough time look around, search for things, familiarize yourself with Fedora, read theFedora WIKI. As I said… over complicating stuff. I do my best to rule EVERYTHING OUT before even thinking of creating a thread for help.
I did a quick Google search for “brave browser fedora” and the first thing to pop up was this:
I forget there were ‘special’ ways to install some things in Fedora and I remember doing plenty of it. Solid, as I said. I really felt the fragments of things were paved with workarounds so long (quirks for lack of a better word) that rhel was no longer some unified whole. I did a year and moved on.
yup. it’s important you have a feel of the joint and a little footing first.
Sigh, it’s supposed to be heated mate, I am passionate about that…
P.S. And that’s another problem with society today, nobody is supposed to have or show any feelings, we’re all supposed to be perfect little robots!
I didn’t curse him out or anything like that, so what is wrong with beeing a little heated?!
No problem, and I’ll grant you my comment doesn’t really have much to do with the rest of the thread(or maybe even most of what’s supposed to be talked about on a Linux distro forum?) and it might seem like it came out of nowhere…
But like I said that is one thing that I am passionate about and I just couldn’t help myself not to comment on it…
