After the recent issues I have decided to take @thefrog 's and others advice and give Fedora a try… :scared: Not that my time with EOS was all bad, quite the contrary, for the most part I loved the experience and the community and since happenstance made it the first distro with which I have finally managed to make the switch from winshit to Linux it will always have a special place in my heart.
However since(like I tried to make clear several times before) I really am not a distro hopper, if I do end up getting along well with Fedora, the chances of me ever coming back here are slim to none… I’ll still try to keep and eye on this forum at least for a while and maybe continue to make the occasional post in A little joke on a regular day, but other then that, sadly, it’s not like a newb like me has much to contribute.
Which is also the good news, since pretty much all of the post I’ve made since joining this forum where to ask for help aka I didn’t contribute much, it should mean nobody will miss me.
So in conclusion I would like to:
a) thank everyone so very very much for all your help and attempts to impart wisdom and making me feel welcome;
b) apologize that I wasn’t always the easiest dude to deal with, but I am a fairly opinionated person who is not afraid to speak his mind, show his feelings, and point out the truth/reality even when I need someones help. Therefore I’m sure I pissed some of you off from time to time, so I’m sorry.
c) and last but not least wish you good health, long life, and all the best. Keep up the good work and I’m sure you’re gonna turn EOS into one of the best Linux distros out there/ever!!!(assuming it isn’t already viewed like that in the Linux community )
You don’t have to leave the community here just because you are using another distribution. I use Fedora myself and I’m still here. I know there are others here that run other distributions as well so no reason to leave, you will still be using Linux.
True, but like I said since I don’t have much Linux knowledge and thus can’t really help/contribute to most discussions…
Anyway, everything is ready. Time to swtich off the pc, put in the new hardware, install Fedora and see what happens next/how much of my stuff I can recover.
If I were forced to go away from EOS and also forced to not use any other Arch based distro or Arch itself I guess I would go back to Fedora. My past experiences with Fedora (over 10 years) were good.
Distrobox makes it so you don’t have to worry about that. It’s very easy to set up and use.
However, if everything Arch-related were to disappear, I’d go with OpenSuse Tumbleweed, Void Linux, or something based on Debian Sid as a rolling release replacement.
Sometimes I’m surprised that Mandriva, Mageia, etc. still exist. I used them in my distro-hopping days before using both AntergOS and Borkjaro. Even used Frugalware for a bit.
I used its Parent, Mandrake back in the day . This was I believe Pre Ubuntu. The Original User Friendly Linux. Learned Last year that they had a rolling release. Haven’t messed with it as much as I like though.
Fedora is solid, I wouldn’t say it’s pretty. The yearly version change mega-weird-install thingy gave everyone anxiety and they keep a strange distance from their own AUR which is COPR. My experience. Couldn’t wrap my head around everything and when that happens I move on. It’s a fine distro. I liked DNF and Rhel concepts etc.
You’ll be back.
Endeavour is where it’s at.
Dig.
