13... thirteen!

I feel like I’ve wasted my life
The developer of this new distro is 13 years old!
Here’s his post on reddit

At 13, I got my VIC20 and started to learn programming. I made a career out of it so I can’t say it was entirely wasted  I didn’t have that talent at that age though.

That’s cool mate. At thirteen I was riding round on my Raleigh Chopper hehehehe
I feel inadequate after reading the article LOL
My year at school (1978/9 I think) was the first to have “Computer Studies”. It was punch cards and on a mainframe to the local college.
Three years later my brother started the same course and in just those three years the pupils now had a Computer each (BBC I think). It moved that fast.

You’re not alone. I feel the same after reading it as well

Mad isn’t it. Such a focused young fella, huge props to him.

That’s cool. But I am asking myself: Why did he wear fingerless gloves :scream:

Don’t think like that, different periods of time spark different interests in people and if you compare yourself to others you are only going to disappoint yourself. Only compare yourself to who you where you came from to who you are now, that’s better for you. It’s hard to do I know but better not to put yourself down like that, better to find the good things about yourself and appreciate that instead of looking at where you disappointed yourself in comparison to others. Build yourself up, don’t pull yourself down.

Kids get exposed to computers and technology at an early age these days, as in this case, when they are still information sponges. No wonder they are better than us!

Growing up I didn’t have my own computer, it wasn’t until I was in college that I had my own computer. Like you said there’s easier access to technology now days and it’s more affordable now compared to when I was growing up.

if he really is 13 - then “chapeau”.

Developed this within a month. No typos in post. Perfectly edited video.

Wearing gloves to hide his tatoos cause he’s head of a 20 members russian or chinese hacker organization

But thumbs up for the idea of having a native language OS.

He writes on reddit “he” worked everything out, visiting the website he wrote in “we” form. Which makes me a bit suspicious here.

During my studies, believe it or not, the son of my Professors gave us a lecture. Not the full 90mins but 30mins if I recall it correctly. Can’t recall which topic it actually was. But he wasn’t even 10 years old. 8 or 9, if I recall it right. Began programming in an early age already.

The best example of a child prodigy which went wrong would be definitely William James Sidis. Who has been the youngest enrolled student at Harvard, in the age of 9.

On the other hand, it can be extremely frustrating for a child when it’s not being challenged by the task it is confronted with.

When talking about a product it always looks more reassuring to the end user (the public) if it looks like a team effort/production, hence we as opposed to I.

When I used to distro hop I tried Feren OS and I’m pretty sure the fella who developed that was very young too, maybe 17 if I remember correctly.

They lost me at multiple AI agents! No thanks!
