Zoom not working or just me?

After the last update (6.7.2), when I try to annotate on a shared screen in Zoom, the shared screen goes black. It wasn’t like that before. Can someone confirm if that’s me?

I use Zoom from AUR, on i3wm.

I just installed and used Zoom yesterday on Plasma. Working without any issues.
I haven’t used the annotate feature though. Just a normal video call. Probably harder to test your issue because i have to annonate someoelse else’s screen.

I just thought I’d mention, if need be you can revert back to a browser based Zoom session. I can’t confirm if annotation on a shared screen is possible using that, as I know the browser version does have some limitations.

If you’re comfortable with its limitations, I’d actually argue that the browser version of Zoom is a safer way to use Zoom, as it exists within the browser sandbox (Zoom Security Bulletins).

Seconded.
And yes, screensharing is possible. I think annotation too, but maybe not on Wayland?

I’m surprised it ever worked at all. AUR and Flatpak zooms–neither have worked on Endeavour for me. I’m talking the standalone and browser for me.

Any/all zoom meetings I do on my backup distro.

I have never figured this out. I know it’s me not Endeavour. But as long as I have a backup distro I never felt compelled to dig too deep.

2 cents

I’m on Hyprland/Wayland and used the Arch instructions for sharing. It works most of the time. Sometimes I have to kill the session after sharing because I cannot get out of sharing screen. It hasn’t done it lately so maybe they fixed it.

@BoredCat ,
As a newcomer to zoom tested the shared annotation from
I3wm with zoom 6.7.2-1 (AUR)
to
Garuda Plasma zoom (AUR)
and did not find any horror. (Black background does not mean that.)
I’m saying to myself annotation text can include pasted elements and they appear on
the target side(s) after pressing Stamp / Tick. IDK how it was in the previous versions.
NB.

echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE
x11

by default in i3

Well whatever changed broke zoom for me on Hyprland. Don’t even get a window, just a toolbar icon. Nothing opens.

Cleared settings no joy.

Switch to Plasma and it opens, cannot share screen. Tried Arch Wiki tricks, no joy there. I really hate this app.

a wayland thing?

yep

I try it on endeavour wayland budgie (new install) and report back tomorrow/

I’m shocked it worked. It never worked in Endeavour X11 Cinnamon but always worked in Solus X11 Budgie. No I have no idea why.

this worked in Endeavour Wayland Budgie, now.

EDIT: good god I need a haircut

Circumstance: launched standalone from my employer link/account. Got the famous ‘open app’ prompt. Standalone opened, camera and mic on, main window launched.

Fail: launching standalone from Zoom itself. I get crickets and the AI thingy window.

Opening Zoom via browser: I hate that so haven’t tried it some time.

Deduction? Successful launch because of verified account?

Don’t know

I uninstalled plasma, cosmic and blew away my .config and the .cache. Followed

zoom now works and so does the share. Now to add my menu back

outstanding, cheers

So follow-up, I used JaKoolIt Hypr configs. Apparently they are moving the LinuxBeginnings github repo and were not kept up to date. A lot of broken configs. I stripped down an install to what I use and fixed the issues such as swww becoming awww.

Something with https://github.com/LinuxBeginnings/Hyprland-Dots/blob/main/config/hypr/configs/ENVariables.conf was breaking Zoom rendering. I nuked that file all together and Zoom rendered normally.
