YouTube asks me to turn off the ad blocker

  • Which browser do you use?

  • Are you logged into YT account? → If yes, this is problematic, because YT identifies you and already knew that you used Adblock. Try logging out YT and clearing the browser cache.

I have set the addons to be updated automatically.
Also I never did experience myself this adblock blocking so far.
I actually don’t use youtube.com. I have only tried it to see if I get blocked or not.

I use Firefox and yes, I am logged into Google/YouTube. The problem is when I log out, I can’t access my playlists or videos that I have bookmarked. I didn’t have much time to try out your suggestions, I’ll try it out at the weekend because I need an external solution. It’s important to me that I can find videos again and it wouldn’t be bad if similar videos were shown to me, because that’s how I always get discovered interesting videos.

same here

For a good frontend, i recommend Freetube. Its the best i’ve found. You can follow yt channel on it and get a list with all the new video. One thing i also like, its the fact that we can have multiple profile, its really good for organizing by theme for example.

This has been mentioned a few times, sounds interesting, I’ll have to try it out, thanks.

Ah, ok. Yeah, I thought this is about YouTube, my bad, sorry!

I am using uBlock Origin and also YouTube Enhancer add-on for Firefox and don’t have this problem just yet.

For mobile, I use ReVanced and no issues there as well.

Looks like YouTube is turning up the heat and tightening ship.

I just read that there are some affected people in Germany who had this blockade for a short time.

YouTube will probably test blocking first and then analyze how many people have opted for an ad-free subscription or turned off their ad blocker on YouTube. Depending on the user’s reaction, a decision is then made. I hope that the majority did neither one nor the other and left it at the status que.

Youtube is owned by google and if google has bad ads on on service I’m sure its on all. Just because it hasn’t been discovered yet doesn’t make it not so. But my big point is that Google can’t keep malware of thier own sites how are they supposed to be protecting my data? they ain’t nor do they have any interest in protecting user data.

This sounds rationale. The timing is very interesting for them to be testing this approach out. The world economy must be in tough shape when you see mass layoffs at almost all tech firms and also a behemoth like YouTube finally deciding to end ad blocking, which I am sure they could’ve done a long time ago if they really wanted to.

I’m not sure how I will respond to this when I am finally targeted. I can say for sure that I will exhaust all options before even considering giving google a penny of my money.

Well, think of it. On any device, maybe mor so with phone data…not only is Google forcing your time wasted but the are also forcing you to use your data for them to make money off of you. That is unacceptable. These guys need to go down, but until people stop using your tube it will continues.

Boycott is really an answer, but what is not corrupt? Ah…think.

On Linux, get the flatpak called Videodownloader. Not sure if you can get it for Windows.

When the ad starts, get the URL download the video. Might as well download it, you’re already using your data to watch it so just get it. And save the time on the ad and them using your data to make money off of you.

“Fun” thing:

I’ve got a Chromebook … well that’s not the “fun” part, that’s the sad part :man_facepalming:t5: … anyways,
I have uBlock Origin installed on the browser with all it’s inbuilt filters enabled plus some extra.

YouTube/Google seems not to care about it and makes no objection to it. Could be that it is for now but it was a bit “funny” to see.

A Chromebook exception makes sense, they don’t want to upset there customers by planting a bug right at the source

Yeah … you are right!

That was somehow my thinking as well. They want to keep me logged in with my Gmail account to squeeze whatever information they could get

Usually I use mpv but for small videos only a minute or two long I watch off of YouTube. Using FF and uBlock Origin its been ad free. Not sure if YouTube is doing the same here in Canada as they have been doing in other countries.

Well, yeah, but is there any larger tech company that didn’t have any f… ups yet?

I’m still not sure what you’re talking about BTW. More details or a link would really be useful
