You still get the Firefox panel icon even if you opt out of installing Firefox in the liveinstaller

if you opt out Firefox in installation you still get the Firefox shortcut after installation. Of course clicking on it results in an error so Firefox wasn’t installed, but still having the icon makes me feel dirty somehow.

I don’t know if this only happens in Xfce, but I do know it happens in Xfce.

edit: I think you mean during install there is some “opt-in” to get desktop icon, and when you say no you get it anyway?

I think they mean opting out of installing Firefox in the EnOS’ live installer. Like unchecking the box for it in the package selection section of the installer.

don’t remember that option when I used the netinstaller, but probably forgot. thanks for clarifying.

(then that would mean in the install script the add shortcut command was independent of the browser install…maybe the Endeavour gods reckoned the people who say no to firefox or too few? eh, spitballing here)

Welcome to the community! :vulcan_salute: :enos_flag:

This isn’t really a problem, but I’m sure the team is grateful that you pointed it out.

Have you removed the icon already?

yes I opted out to install Firefox in the live-installer, and the Icon was still in the bar, yeah I deleted it. But it’s easy to reproduce. I used the installer several times and it was always there.

Most likely you installed the package eos-settings-xfce4, which provides a desktop file for a few applications, including Firefox. https://github.com/endeavouros-team/endeavouros-xfce4-theming/blob/master/etc/skel/.config/xfce4/panel/launcher-23/16712150326.desktop

Firefox is also incorporated into the whiskermenu.rc this package provides: https://github.com/endeavouros-team/endeavouros-xfce4-theming/blob/master/etc/skel/.config/xfce4/panel/whiskermenu-26.rc

You can either delete the Firefox-related stuff, change it to something else, or just uncheck this package in the installer like you did for Firefox and configure your application settings yourself.

Okay, so we narrowed it down: The theming package needs a script or something which removes the Firefox shortcut if Firefox wasn’t installed.

But it’s not a high priority thing. I’m glad you guys don’t ship all the other trash like libre office games and all this other stuff. And let’s be honest in 99.9% of all cases people won’t opt out Firefox. But it would feel cleaner for the end-user if he doesn’t end up with a shortcut he doesn’t need.

I don’t think a script like this is needed, I think the package is fine as it is. Even for users who will make changes to this or that, it seems like a good starting point to me. But if you think your script idea will be an improvement, you can submit your pull request against the repo linked above and the devs will take a look.

I agree with that, it seems like a non-issue.
