XFCE screenshot app question

I’m in Cinnamon.
I recently gave up a long-time use of gnome-screenshot to sample others.
I didn’t like a lot of popular ones, but I do enjoy xfce4-screenshooter from our extra repo, so I installed it and I use it.

It’s cool…except…

My single question is:
what is with the goofy red X and absence of thumbnail pic and how do I fix it?

/Is this a plugin thing (there are no preferences I can find)? Or don’t use XFCE apps in Cinnamon? Or?/

thanks!

From your screenshot it looks like you don’t have a file selected…

Not trying to open. This is while saving a new shot into the pictures folder. I named it and hit save and preview is blank.
Sorry I was not clear.

Right, but that panel shows a preview of the selected file, not your screenshot, right?

Isn’t that just the standard file dialog?

no, nothing selected. this is how it looks when you save a screenshot

Right, isn’t that is how it is supposed to work?

you don’t select anything when saving, that is normal.
And gnome-screenshot always showed me a preview before I saved…so I made an assumption that was supposed to be functional.

I think I get it.
It tells me straight up to select something…so if you are saving, then it’s just wasted space (my opinion).
Curveball, thanks for indulging me.
