Is there a way to locate the panel horizontally at the bottom of the screen? Thanks in advance.

I personally don’t use xfce, but found this:
Right-click into the panel, → panel → settings.
In the menus you will find all you need.
You may define additional panels, too.
Edit: if ‘locked’ is ticked, you need to unlock it, then you may move it around.
You will see a red border around and 2 handles at the ends for dragging the panel.
BE CAREFUL when unlocked !!!

That did the trick. Many thanks.
It took me a while to learn that those 2 handles left and right are for moving the bar though
Mate desktop has a simple menu in the settings to move the bar where you want it.
