Xfce 4.20 and wayland in 2025 status

i would know status after one year for Xfce and wayland :
i have from my side labwc and wlroots0.19 , but i have not get the choice in login session

maybe this point is missing , or i have missed some other component

this will also interest nvidia card for version nvidia-open as they will be no more support , and for older nvidia card

is there coming any update from Xfce in december 2025 ?

From the 4.20 tour on the website :

Important Notice: Please be aware that the Wayland support in Xfce 4.20 is experimental. It is recommended for advanced users only, as you may encounter bugs and experience incomplete functionality. Proceed with caution!

Plans are underway to add Wayland support to Xfwm4 while preserving its existing X11 functionality. However, such a restructurization will be a major effort and we cannot tell yet when/if it will be done, so please don’t hold your breath waiting for it.

It worked pretty good for me, but that was under Manjaro Xfce Unstable. I followed information from this reddit post (yeah, I know reddit…sorry) titled “Make Labwc Work Like XFWM (Config Included)”

https://www.reddit.com/r/xfce/comments/1hk7jsb/xfce_420_with_wayland/

Notes from my experience:

Needed to install qt5-wayland to launch smplayer and possibly other software****

Cannot center windows upon opening in wayland: It might be a wayland issue fixed in rc.xml placement section change from automatic to center

Original Poster notes a different location in Home folder:

Save it to: $HOME/.config/labwc/rc.xml

In Arch/EOS $HOME/.config/xfce4/labwc/rc.xml****

Using lightdm with lightdm-gtk-greeter I was able to choose x11 or wayland session.

Added additional workspaces by modifying rc.xml
