WiPhone a minimal Phone

A Simple Open Source Phone. Just Phone and Text. That’s it

Handy if you only want a phone at home. I only really take mine out with me for the camera and music (I can’t hear voices too well when there is background noise)

I like the simplicity of this device.

I like the idea of simpler phones as well, but I like texting with a keyboard. Was never a fan of T9. So I’ve been buying inexpensive Android devices (I think I paid $225 for my current device) and running Android Debloat on it to remove ALL those apps that I’ll never use. In fact, I hardly ever touch the phone unless someone calls, which thankfully isn’t often. I text, through Chrome, on a laptop or desktop. I rarely take it outside with me. It sits on the counter in the kitchen. I’d like to see form factor ratios return to 16:9 or even 16:12 (4:3), so wider and shorter.

This is a cool idea. I think we need projects like this in these days where phones are becoming so entangled in our lives. Unfortunately, for myself there is too much that is required of me through my phone for work and school to use this device exclusively but might be worth getting just to use as a secondary phone to take with me when I don’t want all the distractions of a modern smart phone.

It works with WIFI and VOIP and not a SIM, not designed to replace mobiles

Ah I see, that is very interesting. I’m not sure what the use case for something like this would be for me then. Other then hacking/learning tool.

As the Starlink satellite system matures and expands, perhaps one would be able to connect directly to a satellite anywhere in the world, at any time.

Then the world no longer will be a village, it will be a living room.
Don’t know if that is the future that I prefer. :palm_tree:
