Windows games suddenly crashing, unplayable

Hello,

I updated my system a week ago, and ever since, I can’t play windows games anymore. They load up, but will crash very quickly. I’ve tried different version of proton and making sure to reinstall them, I’ve uninstalled steam and reinstalled it a few times, deleted some caches. I’ve tried Fallout 4 and BG3. Both games have ran fine, up until a week ago, for hundreds of hours.

Some times, the game will load and be playable for a bit. When playing, everything is great. Good frame rate, etc. Somewhat randomly (One time I even got 30 mins of playing in, thinking I solved the issue), the game will just poof. The full game process is still sometimes running, but the graphics are gone.

Here is the end of the proton log for the latest Fallout 4 crash. I was able to play for ~5 minutes, reload a few saves.

Log for when game crashes immediately after loading the save:

I’m a slightly more than beginner here, but sorta at a loss as to where to go from here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

System Info:

Intel i7-14700k

Radeon 7800 XT 16 gig

Vulkan Info

Ugh, this always happens.

Unless its random luck, finally found the culprit in DXVK

This worked

PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%

Maybe this was just a time when I happened to be able to play, but was finally able to finish the Fallout 4 quest line (I was like… 5 minutes away when this all started happening).

You have a powerful amd GPU , shouldn’t be having issues with DXVK, run sudo pacman -S mesa lib32-mesa xf86-video-amdgpu vulkan-radeon lib32-vulkan-radeon libva-mesa-driver lib32-libva-mesa-driver and reboot. Then remove the wined3d option and try to play the game.

Hey, sorry for the late response, been hectic around here.

Still not exactly sure what went wrong, but a vulkan update fixed the problem and everything is back to normal. I will definitely keep that list handy in case something like this happens again, thank you!
