This thread has been sprawling for FOUR days. I think personally that everything has been said about this subject.
I don’t understand how according to some comments everything has been ruined, Forums are good as dead, sun logged off and Timmy fell over his bike.
Even before this “renovation” of now-ex-Pub there were rules about politics, religion and insulting material and toxic behavior; however we, probably mostly adults, decided that we don’t want to play according these rules and ruined those funny threads by doing exactly against the rules and causing constant agony to mods.
Those threads did not make this forum’s spirit; spirit was made by people helping each other and being nice and lenient towards each other.
I simply can’t fathom how everything is over because of deletion of couple of threads and enforcing rules, that were there already beforehand, more strictly.
I was afraid I was going to have to report your meme to other moderators because it referenced a political situation. And yes, i’m totally kidding, because I don’t get offended easily (nor would I consider that objectionable).
And yeah, I’d be for closing the thread hahah
As I’ve written before the staff has made a decision, we have to accept it. Everything is fine. And no I don’t want one type of content to legitimate another type of content.
Edit: I mixed things up, I wrote this in another thread
Maybe I’ve missed what exactly has happened the last days/weeks. I personally didn’t stumble over extreme posts. Probably because the mods are faster than light
Not a big wall of text that noone reads to agree on like other distros (and if you read it you loose braincells), just a simple message pinned on top of the forum.
even if i am not very long following this whole linux topic, i have noticed that many linux distributions become political and then drama happens and the community and also developers split up bc they start hating on each other. in the end some projects even die because of it. i dont want this drama. which is why i chose endeavour as it has this rule.
Of course I also chose it bc its space themed and i also enjoy the arch base
but i think endeavouros is like one of the few, if not the only distro where you have like less, or non drama, and many, MANY cool people.
I am impressed, always, at the power of Less is More. It speaks louder and more sensibly than a page full of bylaws…total agreement.
when it takes, literally, on average, 1-10 minutes to get help on something serious, I was sold. I think the wonderful Music and Joke threads were politically infiltrated on occasion, but the longer I thought about it the more I realized that they were lost due to the occasional knucklehead (including me who likes his humor dark and juvenile and silly and not always P.C.) but these threads, on occasion, did wander from the simple premise of the “welcome to the community” rules you re-posted.
I still really really miss those threads, but the longer I think about it, I now realize how many wheelbarrows full of conundrums** they threw the mods, to completely mangle my metaphor..
**how many times could one ‘look the other way’ when decorum breached? is how I imagine MOD life is. But now I’m OT, sorry.
I understand that you want to avoid divisive political discourse here. The reality is that running a community-driven open source linux distro is in itself a political endeavour that attracts people with a wide variety of partisan tendencies united by their distrust of big tech and support for software freedom. Probably best if we stick to our common interests.
After a while now with the revamped “Linux Lounge”, I’ve concluded that I really miss the What Are You Listening To thread. I was all ready to post… I got my album artwork ready and took a screenshot of Fooyin before I remembered it was gone.
I think the main issue with the “What are you listening to” thread was it regularly got a lot of flagged posts due to people posting offensive and/or political content, and ended up being very time consuming to moderate. So I think if that started happening again, yes: it would be noticed pretty much immediately.
A tricky thing about that thread is it’s not always obvious what a song is about by just looking at the thumbnail or song title. Sometimes it is obvious, yes, but sometimes not. It’s unrealistic to think the mod team is going to go and listen to every song that gets posted (I’m certainly not going to do that), so sometimes questionable stuff would just accumulate there until inevitably someone gets upset and starts flagging stuff, and then the mod team has to unravel what happened. Does the song contain lyrics that violate community guidelines somehow, or does the video have imagery that does? Or does someone just not like the music, or are they flagging a post because the user who posted it is upsetting them? Etc, etc…
Most of the links in that topic were just rockin’ good tunes, without really much more to it than that. But given that a lot of music–or art in general–is oftentimes intended to provoke a reaction or convey a message that may be polarizing, it can be tricky and time consuming to moderate a thread like that.
that covert political warfare stuff went right over my head–I’m still astounded by it.
I was also astounded at how much Adult Day Care these poor mods had to do. I would not have known how much petty, childish stuff went on.
EDIT: I must be living under a rock or something like a lizard…or a frog..
It’s OK. Not complaining. We will all get by. I live for two guitars, bass, drum, and screaming so I will always miss it: and the world will keep turning
