Will Linux desktops ever integrate better with Apple Wallet membership cards?

I’ve been using EndeavourOS as my daily driver and really appreciate how much control it gives over my system. One thing I still miss compared to macOS is the seamless integration with services like Apple Wallet.

Many museums, libraries, zoos, and other organizations now issue Apple Wallet membership card instead of physical cards. While I can receive and use these cards on my iPhone, there isn’t much integration on Linux desktops for viewing, managing, or interacting with wallet passes.

I know projects like KDE Connect and GSConnect have improved phone integration over the years, but they don’t really address Apple Wallet functionality.

Do you think Linux desktop environments could eventually support features such as:

  • Viewing membership pass information from an iPhone
  • Better notification syncing for membership updates
  • QR/barcode sharing between phone and desktop
  • Improved interoperability with wallet-based membership systems

I’m interested in hearing how other EndeavourOS users handle organizations that have moved to Apple Wallet membership card. Are there any open-source tools or workflows that make this easier?

This is a clarion call for KDE to develop a solution which can handle virtual membership cards like Apple Wallet, Samsung Wallet, etc.

Considering that even google free android phones can’t do anything with google wallet. I doubt there is much that can be done to access the even more restrictive apple one. Not even MicroG supports google wallet. Last I checked it was something that needs approval from the Big Corps and they aren’t keen to giving that approval to seemingly anyone that isn’t also a major player.

Even if they specifically only wanted to access the membership portion of the wallet. I doubt the security measures are any less strict for that than the rest of the wallet.
