Will having both dongles inserted at the same time cause problems?

Hello World,

I already have a pair of Razer Nari Essential headphones that I use, but I just ordered the Audeze Maxwell’s too, so when they arrive if I just insert the dongle from those too while keeping the razer dongle one in, will that cause problems?

I ask because on winshit something like this wouldn’t even fly as you would have to install drivers for both which would surely conflict at some point. But on Linux if everything is baked into the kernel is it ok if I just have both inserted at the same time and just switch between which one I want to use/when I want from the system settings sound window?

Thank you.

P.S. Wasn’t sure if this was more appropiate to post in this section that has the word “sound” in the name or in the hardware section. Sorry if I goofed, feel free to move it.

Not sure about the dongle but I see the

has bluetooth I’m sure you could toggle that on and off.

I think at the end of the day its going to send sound to the active device and you can just toggle between the two but I don’t think it will play through both at the same time?

I have a wired set and a bluetooth speaker and the wire is default active however i can switch to the bluetooth speaker If I choose to use it. however I keep the bluetooth off during times i’m not using that speaker. When turning it on I don’t have to unplug the wired ones.

Yeah well they both have dongles that go into the pc(which are 2.4 ghz I think), not sure if that was clear the way I wrote the initial post…

So even if they support bluetooth on top of that I don’t plan on using bluetooth.
I just want the dongles to play nicely and not effect one another while they are both plugged into the pc and just be able to turn one headset on, select it from the settings, use it without issues, then turn it off, turn the other one on, select this one in the settings, and so on and so forth.

Again I don’t think it will be an issue I’m just saying you will need to toggle between the two. I unfortunately don’t have any audio dongles to verify

Ok cool, I’ll keep my fingers crossed that you are correct then.

Gonna leave this thread open and in case issues do arrise update and see what we can do. Thanks mate.

The dongles themselves do not conflict with one another but using the dongles on usb3 might cause interference (which looks as if the two dongles have issues). with each other and other devices connected to usb. I am using a very cheap usb2 (has to be usb2, not usb3) hub for this exact purpose. USB2 does not have interference issues with the 2.4ghz dongles.

Well then that should be perfect because I have the razer dongle inserted in a usb2 slot from the front I/O of my case(cause the signal on these is not strong enough and if I slot it in the back directly in the motherboard I get disconnections) while the dongle from the Maxwells is usbc and I only have 1 usbc port in the back directly in the motherboard.
So in this case it should work without any interference, right? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

i’m not sure. since usb-c is the form factor but it’s actually also usb3 protocol. just to make sure i’d get a usb2 interface. Aknowledging that using usb3 for these dongles is problematic, Lenovo provides two usb2 ports on their docks specifically for keyboard and mouse.

Here is a reddit post with some source articles about this sort of interference: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/jfnbbk/til_usb_30_may_interfere_with_nearby_24ghz/

Where I encounter this issue is when i connect my dongle to a usb3 port, and in the adjacent port i add a usb thumb drive or some other device. My mouse then starts to have fits and becomes unusable.

 Guess we’ll see how it reacts when I get it then… I’ll try to at least move things around back there and keep the slots around the usbc one clear, hopefully that will help…

I can only say from Logitech RF dongles for input devices … they do ot interfere, but you can use multiple devices over one of them… this could be possible with yours too

In case you do have troubles with your setup, this is what I am using to solve this problem: https://www.amazon.com/Splitter-Expander-Console-Printer-Keyborad/dp/B0BGHSNDK5/
It’s cheap and saves me headaches

Let’s hope @joekamprad , let’s hope.

As for that item @nate I’m glad it works for you but:

  1. I kinda did a bad thing cause I already had rates to pay on this indoor bike I had to buy for health reasons, really wasn’t supposed to get anything else. But then these showed up with a black friday discount on a site which has this option for 4 rates without interest. And even though I knew I shouldn’t, I couldn’t help myself so I ordered these too and now for the next 3 months I’m gonna have to go from 2 meals a day to 1 meal every 2 days…  Therefore atm even “cheap” items like the one you linked are impossible for me.
  2. When I finally become solvent again I already have this hub on my shopping list, which while quite a bit more expensive I’ll grant you, fits my situation much better.

Well, good night everyone, gonna watch a movie then turn in.

Ok so I’ve recieved the headphones and been testing them for a while. The good news is that there’s no interference or issues from keeping both dongles pluged into the pc at the same time.

As far as the Maxwell’s sound quality goes and whether they are worth all that money and pain and whether they live up to the hipe… my response is kinda “meh” at the moment… Oh well, live and learn I suppose…

Anyway, thanks for the help everyone.
