Wifi problems

Hi everyone. I’m new to Linux. I have a Macbook air mid 2013 with Broadcom BCM4360 wifi card. The wifi does work and I can connect to networks, but it’s bad.

The wifi is very very slow. On macOS I got 5mb/s but on Linux I have (most of the time) around 200kb/s. The next problem is that the download speed fluctuates, sometimes it’s around 2mb/s, the next second it’s at 100kb/s. Another problem is that it looks like when the wifi is not in active use it just stops working. Like before I start downloading something with pacman I need to turn my wifi on and off and only then it starts to (barely) work.

Is anyone else experiencing these issues? Thanks.

Are you using the broadcom-wl-dkms package for the WiFi?

You may need to blacklist the other modules also in modprobe.d with a conf file that you create. I’m not familiar with Mac so i don’t know if it has the same folder structure?

blacklist b43
blacklist b43legacy
blacklist bcm43xx
blacklist bcma
blacklist brcm80211
blacklist brcmfmac
blacklist brcmsmac
blacklist ssb

I added the lines into /etc/modprobe.d/broadcom-wl.conf, and restarted my mac, but the issues still persist.

Your wifi is not supposed to work

that’s how computers work,

they follow explicit instructions like this,

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, break, your, wi, fi.
